Help Name Relentless Beats' New EDM Night at The Monarch Theatre

How does one come up with a killer name for their weekly club event? The promoters of Bar Smith's über-popular Sticky Fingers night, for instance, cribbed from the Rolling Stones. Meanwhile, the folks behind The Blunt Club parlayed the hip-hop world's love of weed into the name of their night when it launched back in 2003.

Valley EDM promoters Relentless Beats, on the other hand, are hoping to tap into clubgoers' collective imaginations and do a little crowdsourcing to determine the moniker of their newest electronic dance music event.

Next month, they'll be taking over Saturday nights at the newly opened Monarch Theatre in downtown Phoenix and are turning to their fans to conjure up the perfect name for the weekly shindig.

​The Maine are well on their way to selling out Pollack Tempe Cinemas for the screening of their debut short film, In Darkness and In Light this Friday, December 17.

Up on the Sun is doing a contest to win a pair of FREE tickets, and entering is simple.

All you have to do is "like" our Facebook page here. Then, on your Facebook page, tag Up on the Sun with the sentence, "Hey, Up on the Sun, I want to see The Maine this Friday!" To tag us, when you're updating your status, put @Up on the Sun, and our page will autofill in your status.

Grab that box of crayons, sharpen your colored pencils, and dampen your water colors: Tempe rockers Gospel Claws announced a poster coloring contest. Contestants can download the poster, drawn by Jennifer Campbell, here and read up on the official rules here. The quintet will pick their favorite entry on October 10 and use it as the promotional poster for their much anticipated upcoming full-length CLAWS, featuring worry-free, groovy drowning anthem "Summer Nights Lakeside."

Baby Dee: Win Tickets To Her Show Sunday at Trunk Space

​Not many acts more colorful than Baby Dee drop by Phoenix.

Dee, sort of a cross between The Dresden Dolls (who she's toured with) and Joanna Newsom (just because of the harp), is a transgendered Clevelander-turned-New-Yorker-turned-Clevelander who really has no interest in talking about her life's story. A protege of Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Dee gets a lot of ink from classy outfits like The Chicago Tribune, who quoted her as saying:

"Lieder is an apt comparison, but this is just how my obsessions from my 20s -- the composer Palestrina, renaissance music -- are coming out in what I wrote much later," she explains. A Book of Songs is largely work composed in 2002-03 for a limited release of 150 copies. "I am not into Schubert -- my influences are much more arcane."

I'm not going to pretend that doesn't go a bit over my head. Still, what Dee does will likely appeal fans of the classically-oriented indie "rock" of Newsom, et. al. Check out "Lilacs" for free here.
