Poncho Sanchez Concert at Musical Instrument Museum Canceled
Devin DeHaven Poncho Sanchez
Poncho Sanchez has cancelled his Friday, July 11, show at the Musical Instrument Museum Theater due to personal issues.
Sanchez also canceled a show in Las Vegas as well.
MIM is looking at rescheduling the show.
Sanchez is a renown Latin percussionist and bandleader, perhaps best-known for his songs "El Shing-A-Ling" and "Besame Mama." The 63-year-old's love of traditional Latin jazz artists (like Machito, Tito Puente, Cal Tjader, and Mongo Santamaria) began at a young age, Sanchez recently told Up on the Sun.
"Kids in the neighborhood would come over and I'd put on Cal Tjader or Tito Puente records, and they'd look at me like I was nuts," he says with a laugh. "Like, 'Why do you like that shit? That's old people's music.'"
