The Public House on Sixth
Another day, another Tempe spot bites the dust. This time it's the Public House on Sixth, the party-happy bar and college kid hangout just off Mill Avenue next door to El Hefe in Tempe.

Both places are owned by Riot Hospitality Group, which also runs El Hefes in Scottsdale and Chicago, as well as Dierks Bentley's Whiskey Row. Their bar empire grew slightly smaller last week when the Public House closed for business.

On June 20, the main image on the Public House's Facebook was changed to a picture that stated "new concept coming soon."

Summertime in the Valley seems to be a period when a lot of bars go down for the count, probably due to it being the time when everybody either gets the hell outta town or doesn't want to go outside. Downtown Tempe and Mill Avenue gets to be a ghost town with all the

Riot Hospitality Group first opened Public House last fall in a space that was formerly occupied by Irish drinkery Robbie Fox's. While it functioned as both a sports bar and eatery, it was meant to drawn in ASU students and the young partiers of Mill. There was a bit of a frat house flair to the Public House (including drinks served on paddles and a Animal House night) and a serious pro-partying atmosphere.

Apparently it wasn't enough to get people through its door as people seemed to prefer partying at the bigger and flashier El Hefe next door. There's been no word what will take over the spot as of this writing.

Public house has terrible drinks and meh service. Of course it was going to close down. And by drinks I mean the beer selection, too.

Johnny the guy that owns hefe and most of the bars on mill came to the owners of Robbie's, and offered them 2.1million. Robbie's wasn't for sale but who would turn than down?

@Leilah there are plenty of bars that have lasted. Mill Cue Club, Rula Bula, Big Bang and Fat Tuesday are great examples.

This is music to my ears after how I was treated by a bouncer and the manager.

Never heard Robbie Fox's closed but happy they did! I worked there until I asked for my paperwork and then they fired me! Ha ha! What a happy day for me to hear they can't exploit any more hard working students!
