Hey, didja hear that rumor that's going around about the Yucca Tap Room in Tempe? You know, the one about how it's going to be closing this summer? What about the other one about how the Tempe dive is going to be gonezo a year from now because of construction along Mill Avenue?

We're guessing that you have, considering both rumors (or variations thereof) have been making the rounds lately via Facebook or through old-fashioned face-to-face communication, especially in light of recent news of other Tempe bars closing or moving in the near future.

Thing is, neither rumor is true. The Yucca Tap Room isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

And no less a source than owner Rodney Hu told us so when we spoke to him regarding the scuttlebutt regarding his bar's impending doom.

We flat-out asked Hu, whose family has owned and operated the Yucca for more than 40 year, about whether or not the rumors were true.

His answer was simple: Absolutely not," he says, "And I would love to find out the source."

In fact, Hu tells New Times, the Yucca has been doing well over the past 12 months.

"Yes, we are having a record [year to date] number-wise and we are busy trying to plan for our 42nd-year anniversary party," he says.

Like many in the local music scene, Hu heard the rumors about the Yucca possibly shuttering, which seemed to gain steam in the wake of news that The Sail Inn was closing in June. He didn't seem to pay much attention to such gossip at first, chalking it up to "haters."

"It's funny. I didn't think anything of it at first, and then I took the stance of, 'Why respond if it's not true,' you know?"

And then more and more friends kept approaching him about what they'd heard. After word broke Sunday night that Long Wong's would be closing tonight, Hu decided to send out a press release declaring that the Yucca is alive and well, it wasn't going anywhere, and "the future of live music in Tempe is still bright."

"Our commitment to providing a home for live music in Tempe has never been stronger," Hu stated in the release. "Just look at our calendar. Does it look like we're closing anytime soon?"

All the other dives are... This one is just too convenient to close down. I'd riot.... At home, in my underwear, drinking a chocolate milkshake
