Friends of Thom Gabaldon, the esteemed local DJ and musician who passed away last week after succumbing to cancer, have announced details for a memorial concert next weekend.

And true to the 44-year-old's penchant for dark, moody, and harsh music, especially electronic tunes, the show will overflow with industrial, Gothic, and synth-pop sounds.

The lineup includes some of the resident selectors of the Sadisco* industrial dance collective, which Gabaldon regularly attended, like //she// and Squalor. Murk-filled New Wave band Audra, Goth-y synth-poppers Ashengrace and Reliquary, and Fallout Shelter resident DJ Self.Destrukt also are scheduled to perform.

Aleksandr Aeternum, a close friend who is also handling the late musician's arrangements and helping organize the show, stated on Facebook that the memorial is named after an event that Gabaldon, who also performed as DJ darksouldealer, once put on back in 2005.

"For those who do not know, Refuge is the name of a Hurricane Katrina benefit show that Thom organized at Anti Space several years ago," Aeternum wrote. "It seemed a fitting name for his memorial."

Aeternum is also putting together a live performance of Gabaldon's ambient drone project dreamcell for the gig. Up on the Sun asked him recently if that will involve musicians replicating the project's dark electronic dirges.

"No, but we'll do something dramatic," Aeternum says. "I have no idea yet, but I'll think of something by then. Maybe a laptop enshrined among flowers and incense?"

We're certain that whatever Aeternum comes up with that it will be plenty moody and interesting, to say the least.

Refuge: A Memorial to Thom Gabaldon takes place at 8 p.m. Friday, March 22, at The Rogue Bar in Scottsdale. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.
