Black Flag Is Coming to Tempe

Black Flag
Yep, you read that headline correctly. Punk legends Black Flag are making their way to Club Red on Thursday, July 11. It isn't the classic lineup, though, and some fans may be disappointed by the lack of Keith Morris, Dez Cadena, Robo, and/or Henry Rollins. Greg Ginn, the band's only continuous member heads the current lineup, which features Ron Reyes, who sang in the Jealous Again era between Morris and Rollins, on vocals.

Is the Black Flag "reunion" little more than a marketing gimmick? The biggest question is whether the show will go the way of disastrous punk reunions such as Dead Kennedys or Misfits. Having an opportunity to see some iteration of Black Flag is pretty cool, though, and $28 advance tickets aren't too much of a gamble.

If you're more of a Morris fan, the current OFF! and former Circle Jerks singer just so happens to be leading a second Black Flag reunion band, which goes by the name FLAG and features former Black Flag members Cadena, Chuck Dukowski, Bill Stevenson, and a guest appearance by Descendents' Stephen Egerton. FLAG is headlining the Punk Rock Bowling festival in Las Vegas Memorial Day weekend, so it wouldn't be a stretch to assume that Morris' Black Flag will make its way to Phoenix soon. Crazier things have happened, after all OFF! and Henry Rollins performed within a few days of each other in Phoenix last year.

In a world where two Black Flag reunion bands exist, we can't help wondering whether the idea of a Black Flag reunion show is better than the reality of it happening. We'll know for sure this summer.

Black Flag is scheduled to perform at Club Red on Thursday, July 11. Tickets go on sale on March 22.

Wow...why all the hate? It's not like Rollins was the only singer Black Flag had. He may have done more recorded work with them, but big deal. Think about it for a second: this is BLACK FLAG! Greg Ginn! 'Flag' will be cool to see because of Morris, Dukowski, Cadena, etc, but no one, and I mean NO ONE can play those completely off key and distorted solos and riffs like Ginn can. And Ron Reyes? Come on! We're takling 'Decline' era BF. That in itself is fucking awesome! I have my ticket already.

eww.... get these old men off the stage.... this is more embarrassing than PiL reunion. these guys need to realize their glory days are over.... give up.... punk is dead and no one cares.

Might as well call it a Flack Blag concert. It just isn't the Doors without Morrison!

Not too exciting. Flag on the other hand would be awesome to see.

Going to see Flag at PRB.  Not really interested in seeing this show at all, if Flag come to Phoenix I will be happy to see them.
