Sixto Rodriguez
Atención, long-lost singer/songwriter types: If you're looking to make a big comeback, having a mythical backstory, two stone-cold classic LPs in the can, and a blockbuster documentary goes a long way.

Such is the case with Sixto Rodriguez, whose rise from dusty-fingered crate digger obscurity to a star has been remarkable. It worked this like: Consistent musical rescue team Light in the Attic reissued his two LPs, 1970's Cold Fact, and 1971's Coming from Reality, hip bands like Animal Collective started name-dropping him, and in 2012, a documentary titled Searching for Sugar Man chronicled his backstory, his rise to international fame (he's a legend in South Africa), and his relationship with the city he calls home, Detroit.

What the film doesn't cover is his recent musical rebirth in America. Boosted by the film's notoriety -- it's been nominated for Best Documentary at the Academy Awards and recently took home the BAFTA Award for Best Documentary -- he's been selling out shows nationwide.

Demand for the singer/songwriter has been great -- so great that the local promoters at Stateside Presents have moved his Thursday, April 18 show from downtown's historic Orpheum Theatre to a larger venue, Mesa Amphitheatre.

From Stateside direct:

Due to high demand, we have moved the show from the Orpheum Theatre to the higher capacity Mesa Amphitheatre.

(Unfortunately, those who purchased tickets for the Orpheum event must re-purchase tickets to Mesa Amphitheatre as all Orpheum Theatre tickets have now been refunded.)

Tickets are on sale now via the Mesa Ampitheatre box office and Statseside Presents . The stop in Phoenix will proceeded and followed by appearances at the two-weekend Coachella Music and Arts Festival, in Indio, California, where Rodriguez shares a bill with artists like The Stone Roses, Lou Reed, the xx, Phoenix, and more.
