Ricky Brindley, What Are You Listening To?
When you put your key in the ignition and turn on the radio, what station would play right now? The station that plays my iPod or 91.5-FM (NPR.)
What's the first album you bought? MC Hammer, Please Hammer, Don't Hurt 'Em.
What's the first concert you saw? Blink-182 at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
What's your favorite concert you've ever been to? Modest Mouse, Nita's Hideaway, November 11, 2003 -- my favorite band playing a great small venue. Or Hot Chip at Coachella 2010. I was in the middle of a crowd of thousands dancing in unision. It was like being in a flock of birds.
What's the last song played on your music player? "Stay," by Lisa Loeb. It's a great song to sing really loud and out of tune to.
Preferred format: CD, vinyl, cassette, 8-Track or digital? I love the sound of vinyl but the convenience of my iPod.
What's your favorite album? R. Kelly, Double Up. It's got everything: great pop songs ("I'm a Flirt" remix, "Same Girl"), crazy concept songs ("Real Talk," "Sex Planet"), and some of the craziest lyrics you've ever heard -- "I got you so wet it's like a rainforest/Like Jurassic Park but I'm your sexasaurus baby," from "The Zoo."
Who is your favorite singer or band? Modest Mouse. Especially from The Lonesome Crowded West to Good News for People Who Like Bad News.
Does you computer track how many times you've played something -- if so, what's at the top of the list? "Heartbeats," by The Knife. It's a great song to get you pumped up for a show.
