Modest Mouse Is Coming to Phoenix

It's been a hot minute since Portland-based indie rock stalwarts Modest Mouse put a record out (the band's latest EP, No One's First and You're Next came out in freaking 2009). Songwriter Isaac Brock insists new material is coming (but you know, he named his record label Glacial Pace), but for now it looks like folks itching for a lonesome crowded fix best catch the band live.

In addition to playing the two-weekend Coachella Music and Arts Festival, the band will join the increasing number of Coachella acts headed to Phoenix. On Sunday, April 14, the band is scheduled to perform at the Crescent Ballroom (on a fancy, high-capacity supporting outdoor stage). Tickets for the performance go on sale via Crescent Ballroom's site on Friday, February 22.

It's not like Brock hasn't stayed busy lately. In addition to crafting the soundtrack to the Arizona-based surreal comedy Queens of Country (listen to selections from that work as part of our Up on the Sun podcast), he's been hanging with Big Boi, and issuing cool records by Talkdemonic and Love as Laughter via his label. Plus, he has an awesome home in Portland, so it's a marvel that he's ever willing to leave the place and go tour:
