The United States was was knee deep in the Vietnam conflict when John Lennon and Yoko Ono penned the words to the 1971 single, "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)."

But while it's been more than 30 years since the infamous twosome led the cries for an end to violence and suffering around the world, Phoenix's own duo, Being Cool is Lonely, say the song is more relevant than ever.

"'War is Over' is John Lennon at his memorable best," says the masculine half of BCIL, Keith Walker. "Global unification and peace is the main message to the song."

The electronic act has joined forces with Austin Head and Suz Boots of Therapist, Brett Davis of Sister Cities, Braden McCall of Dead Wildlife, and William Reed and Elise Welch from Blaque Panther Disco for their own rendition of the good tidings' classic.

"Both Tiffe Fermaint and I thought it would be great to have some of our friends sing on the track with us," Walker says. "I did all the music first and then had everyone stop by and add their vocals over the course of a few weeks. Definitely all involved brought something unique to the recording; it's quite an eclectic mix of very talented local artists."

The collaboration is just another sign of things to come for what promises to be a busy 2013 for Being Cool is Lonely. Earlier this year they hooked up with Andy Rourke of The Smiths on a track scheduled for release next year, and are also working on a track with Walker's brother Craig. And even more exciting news comes with the announcement of a side project headed by Walker and Davis, called The Holy Coast.

"The Holy Coast is the band I've started with Brett Davis of Sister Cities," Walker says. "We've just finished recording our first EP and will be releasing our first single in January."

Until then, cozy up and think of good things while you prepare for your own happy Christmas.
