Stan Devereaux & the Funky Suns Cover Marvin Gaye and Dyke and The Blazers
We're getting funky with this week's Take Cover, as Stan Devereaux & the Funky Suns perform soulful jams two songs for your enjoyment. Devereaux asked me to film Marvin Gaye's hit from the Boogie Nights soundtrack, "Got to Give it up," but the band continued jamming with a cover of classic Arizona song, the legendary "Funky Broadway." by Dyke and The Blazers.

"That song relates to our political statement, I guess. That's about as heavy as I want to be politically," Devereaux laughs, describing why the band decided to cover "Got to Give it up."

He says he performs both songs whenever possible, but not necessarily back to back. Why did Devereaux decide to cover "Funky Broadway?"
"It's music, that's what attracted me to it," he says, "I've been around for a long time, off and on. I'm from here, and I'm a part of Arizona history and I've done R&B in this state for a long time. It has its ups and downs."
This video was recorded as part of the Soul Review at Crescent Ballroom on Tuesday, August 21, 2012, which also featured killer performances by DJ Seduce, Johnny D, and Austin's Brownout.
