Skye in Peoria (2006-2012)

If your weekend plans included journeying to Peoria check out a rock or pop tribute act at Skye, better head back to the drawing board. You certainly won't be heading to the venue.

The proprietors of the West Valley supper club and lounge, which regularly hosted tribute bands and live music on weekends, announced its immediate closing today due to financial concerns.

Terry Davies, one of Skye's managing partners, posted a notice about the closure on both the venue's Facebook and website, stating that "over the past three years, it has been extremely challenging to survive financially."

"Despite the best efforts of the employees and your tremendous support and loyalty, we simply cannot continue," Davies stated.

All performances scheduled at Skye -- including gigs by James Taylor tribute Fire & Rain and country rock band Next 2 The Tracks this weekend -- have been cancelled. Per the venue's website, a number of upcoming shows will be moved to other local venues.

Skye, which opened in November 2006, offered a ritzy and upscale vibe of a retro supper club and was a slice of Sin City in the Northwest Valley. Not the gaudy and garish Las Vegas of today, mind you, but rather the old-school Rat Pack elegance of fine dining, classic cocktails, and live music.

It also specialized in cover acts and tribute bands paying homage to the hitmakers of the past -- ranging from ABBA to Zeppelin -- which perform Friday through Sunday every weekend. An adjacent piano bar also featured lounge acts crooning hits from Elton John to Billy Joel on a rotating stage, as well as more than 30 signature martinis.
