Jahnkay T. Summons, who was arrested this morning in connection with a shooting outside of Chasers in Scottsdale.
NOTE: This blog has been updated since its original publication. In the original version, it was erroneously reported that alleged shooter Jahnkay Summons was a member of the hip-hop group R.G.B/Fed Up. In fact, it was his cousin who is in the group. We apologize for the error.

Shots rang out early this morning outside Scottsdale music venue Chasers Bar and Nightclub as a squabble between family members resulted in gunfire and one person being wounded.

According to the Scottsdale Police Department, an argument between Jahnkay T. Summons of Chandler and his brother started after midnight inside the bar (which was hosting the rap-rock event Smoke Phatties Day, featuring Property Six and other local bands) carried over into the parking lot.

The verbal altercation became violent, when Summons allegedly pulled a gun and fired at his sibling. The shot missed and instead hit their cousin in the head, causing superficial injuries.

According to Guido Ottesen, the promoter for the concert, Summons's cousin is a member of local hip-hop ensemble R.G.B/Fed Up, which had performed at the show earlier in the evening prior to the incident.

"They may have been arguing over something that had to do with snitching or something to that effect," Ottesen says. "I'm not really, sure. I just kept hearing that word."

He adds that the shooting took place in the east end of the parking lot, far from the venue itself, as the last act of the evening was onstage. The performance wasn't disrupted, and Chasers' security asked those who were outside of the venue to move indoors while Scottsdale cops handled the situation.

"Everything was going with the show up until that point. Everyone was happy-go-lucky, the performances were good, and we were having a great show," Ottesen says.

The shooting outside of Chasers comes exactly one week after the gang-related gun battle in the parking lot of the Clubhouse Music Venue in Tempe last Friday that injured 16 people.

Ottesen, however, is quick to state that this morning's shooting had nothing to do with gangs and was merely the result of a family feud.

"These artists aren't known to be violent and have no gang affiliations whatsoever. It was just a family argument that unfortunately became violent."

Summons was arrested by Scottsdale P.D. around 1:15 a.m. and was booked into Fourth Avenue Jail on one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, as well as a litany of other charges (including criminal damage and various drug-related offenses). His cousin was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
