In 2004, George "Dubya" Bush was president, we confirmed that there was water on Mars, the last Oldsmobile rolled off the production line, and the Boston Red Sox won the World Series for the first time since 1918. All of these events can be found on Wikipedia's 2004 in the United States page, but the community generated online encyclopedia is missing one important event: The Trunk Space opened in downtown Phoenix.

Trunk Space has its own Wiki, too -- which notes the various Best of Phoenix awards that New Times has awarded the space (it's missing the latest, though, Best Venue For Local Acts in 2011).

"We are pleased and proud to have been part of the Phoenix art and music community for the past eight years. Everyone who has stepped through our doors have helped make it possible. In April we're going to celebrate the best way we know how: with art, music, and our friends," Trunk Space co-owner JRC said via press release.

The venue is celebrating with a gigantic event on the space's actual birthday, Friday, April 6, which will feature the work from over 15 artists, food from vegan junk food purveyors Green, and music from Good Amount, Dogbreth, Liam and the Ladies, and folk-rockers Andrew Jackson Jihad, a band that honed its chops at Trunk Space.

Long ago, it would have been just 'yer average weekend to see the band at TSpace, but constant touring and a loyal fanbase has elevated it to bigger rooms around town.

That means this special show will likely be packed and sweaty, which if you ask me, is kind of the best way to enjoy the Trunk Space's unique charms.

Entry is $7 bucks, and starts at 7 p.m.

The Trunk Space 8th Anniversary party with Andrew Jackson Jihad, Good Amount, Dogbreth, and Liam and the Ladies is scheduled for Friday, April 6, at Trunk Space.
