Watch This Excellent Flotsam & Jetsam Vintage Electronic Press Kit
We're knee deep in finishing up our 100 Greatest Songs of Arizona list (to be released next week). It's been a lot of fun digging through Arizona's musical past and present, and also pretty mind blowing to realize the contributions Arizona's artists have made to America's musical culture as a whole.
We've read plenty of liner notes and consulted a few experts (including you, loyal reader), but we've also spent plenty of time digging around on YouTube for exotic Arizona exports. This 1992 Flotsam and Jetsam electronic press kit is a perfect example of the excellent stuff we've found floating about on the Internet's waves. Over the course of the videos 6 minutes and 6 seconds running time (that's only missing a single 6), the band pimps its then latest record, Quatro on via KSAR's Metal Works program.
There's bodacious babes, discussion of bass players that have left the band (Jason Newsted, who famously went on to Metallica, and Troy Gregory, who left for Prong), a bunch of dudes who have never played bass in the band, and a glowing endorsement from a random dude shopping at Zia Records in Tempe: "The Beatles -- they were a really good band. They ain't no Flotsam and Jetsam, though."
