Did you know that you can find "sexified Jewish folk funk" right here in Arizona?

It's true.

And you'll be able to experience the groovy rhythms of this funky take on traditional Klezmer music when Flagstaff's Jerusafunk stop by the Lost Leaf on Friday, January 20.

We caught up with clarinetist Jessie Demaree and guitarist Chris Del Favero for the skinny on the bands first foray into funk/Klezmer fusion and the meaning behind "Bulgar from Kiev."

About the track:
This song is based on the traditional klezmer tune "Bulgar from Kiev" and is our first successful fusion of funk and klezmer. A bulgar is the most common dance tune in the klezmer genre, it is also known as "freylekh," and this one happens to be from Kiev.

Behind the music:
The lyrics come from having so much sexual desire for someone that you need to express it unabashedly. As we worked on the song, we changed the rhythms to afro-beat inspired rhythms, and added a vamp at the end of the B section to let us dance a little.

If you've never been to a Jerusafunk show before...
Expect to see some sweat and glitter, and expect to get wet to the groovinest klezmer band you've ever heard.
