MY 103.9 Format Details Emerge

•  Absolutely devastated when I heard this.  Is there no alt rock station in Phoenix?  I'm gen x, and here's a small list of bands, SonicYouth, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Radiohead, Green Day, Weezer, Oasis, Gin Blossoms, Rage against the machine, Beck, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Smashing Pumpkins, White Zombie, 9 inch nails, Everclear, Bush, Blind Melon, Cake, The Cult.  Let's just start with that.

• Fucking Sell Outs!!!!!! Your new station sucks Sheriff Joe's fucking testicles. Pathetic and worthless radio station spewing the same shit as everyone else. Bring back real music!  

• That is what Phoenix needed.....another classic rock station. I like all music but I miss my alternative station. I quit listening to 103.9 and will not tune again. I liked hearing a variety of songs and now 103.9 is just like 100.7 and 93.3. 103.9 has now become a mediocre station and is redundant in the playlist. Goodbye and you will be sorely missed.

• WOW,....so who's going to capture the market of all the people who still want alternative, punk, and local music on FM in Phoenix? Nobody likes Pratt, that's why he was off the air. What a horrible business decision this was.

• Why am I not surprised... If anyone is looking for a replacement and have a second, check out The End 107.7 from Seattle Washington! I tune into them now from my phone, and if I ever want classic rock I'll listen to KDKB.

• The new format on 103.9 sucks big time.  I can't stand one song played.  You have made if for the saps who will forever be stuck on the 80's.  The previous format was unique and this aged rock and roller actually enjoyed the new stuff.  There are plenty of crappy stations on the radio.  I am shocked that you have stooped to that level...Goodbye!

• Just driving back from out of town and realized the only station I would sometimes listen to was gone! How pathetic that people who like quality music from the last 20 years have nowhere to turn. Should have known it was over when they hired Dave Pratt. It's sad when I'd rather listen to KTAR talk radio then the crap they are playing now!!

• I'm on the leading edge of gen-x and this music is what I listened to in high school and slightly after. It's old. We can find old school everywhere on the radio, but where do we find alternative now? My 103.9 just became another station stuck in the 80s. I'm disappointed.

• I have not been this angry about anything in a long time.  They fucked this valley and insult our intelligence by saying that dogshit is gen x music.  Lying bastards!  Sad Dave Pratt beat cancer only to beat independent radio and beat us over the head with unoriginal bullshit.  Fuck him!

• I agree . 103.9 has always played crappy music - ska is old and out...phx is always behind on what is happening. I listen to LA stations and NYC stations as well - they have a good mix of eclectic music....and yes way better than KROQ.

• Ya, it is all for the money! You know thats why the world goes around, the station is just greedy and mismanages money. If they even cared about their audience, then they would len an ear and listen to us. This change has caused an uproar not an improvement. 103.9fm alternative station will be missed..... And at least john, eric, brady, and talitto on 98KUPD The Morning Sick is entertaining in the mornings.

• this is certainly a travesty. i'm an LA native and recently moved from philly and i can't believe a market like phoenix doesn't have an alt rock equivalent. those of you looking for streaming options should also check out philly's 104.5. as far as alternative, i think they have the most modern and eclectic alternative playlist in the nation, even moreso than LA's KROQ.

• Have they listened to 100.7 lately? That's the valley's premier "classic rock" station and... it's been playing the same kind of artists they just listed 103.9 will be playing. Classic Rock doesn't mean "70's" Classic Rock means "20-30 years ago".

• I turned on the radio a few days ago and almost cried. 80s? Really? REALLY?? I will miss the ska punk show and the music on this station, but I refuse to listen to this as it is now. Guess I'm going to have to buy xm...

• My anger about this change grows the longer I think about it. I will miss my ska punk show and delicious alternative music. I will not be giving any service to this new my103.9 station. X103.9 will be missed!

• Finally a station that plays more U2!!! Does anyone actually think that? WTF happened 103.9 was the only half decent station in the valley. I hope they choke on their economic viability!

• Near as I cam tell, I am exactly the demographic "MY103.9" is courting - I am an upscale adult with financial means. And I listened almost exclusively to 103.9 because it's alternative format was exactly what I wanted to listen to. Moreover, it is also what my 2 teenage kids like. Now the station has lost our entire family as listeners. While I like some old school stuff sometimes, I have other stations to feed that need. Now I have no place to hear new, interesting stuff - thanks! First KZON lost it's way in the 90s, then MIX sold out to pop in the 2000s, and now the last tower of independent music has fallen. How sad. Satellite radio, here I come!

• I used to listen to this station because of the "deep cuts" and eclectic play list. I will be taking it off my presets on my radio.

• I'm a Gen Xer who with "finanical means and discretionary income" who is very sorry to see the old format gone. I enjoyed listening to the alternative music that I might otherwise be unfamiliar with.

• What a garbage radio station 1039 will turn out to be, it started out with a crappy morning show with Dave Pratt, now it's going to be that crappy mowning show with Dave Pratt 24/7.

• I'm extremely disappointed and will no longer be listening to 103.9. You could have simply added/ changed someones show and had them do 80s music, which may have been kind of cool, but instead you ruin the whole station? I noticed the change on Thursday and thought everyone must be on vacation then sadly today I discovered this is permanent. I do like 80s music and I don't think its like 93.3 or 100.7 or any other station I've heard but its about the principal. 103.9 WAS the only station that played good alternative music in the valley and over the years the radio personalities became almost like friends. So I'm really sad to see it changed. And what about the new age bands like Mumford & Sons, Silversun Pickups, The Naked and Famous.... the list goes on. Looks like I'll just have to stop being cheap and buy a cable to plug into my stereos deck for my I POD.

• WTF?  The only semi-decent radion station in the Valley. Thank God I'm moving this week.

• Congratulations. Just as I was getting up the guile to re-enter the music scene again with a new band, you take away the one station in the valley I might have been able to get some airplay on. Never mind the fact that there's already a dozen stations playing mediocre, vanilla flavored drivel like The Eagles, Bon Jovi, Van Halen and John Cougar Mellencamp. Never mind the idea of supporting local music and artists. This is indicative of everything that is wrong with Phoenix, and the music industry in general. At a time when something new, fresh and original is so desperately needed, you've taken the one station in the valley of Fail that at least paid occasional lip service to such and flushed it down the toilet. Good bye, 103.9, and here's hoping that this ends up being your swan song. I hope your ratings sink below the Sky Harbor information channel on the AM band.

• This move was terrible by whomever is making the decisions over there.  If they truly care what the opinions of the people are, they should have put a survey or contact form up on their site asking the listeners what they like or asking the listeners what they would like to here or suggestions to improve the format, rather than switching it.  Further, it's an insult to GEN X.  Are they kidding?  Who that is in their 30's wants to constantly listen to the same genre of music that, majority wise, is played on 98.7 The Peak?  I'm 30 years old, and when I think of Gen X, I think more along the lines of 90's Alternative Rock (and I mean a variety -not "Smells Like Teen Spirit" being played 10 times a day).  Tune into Lithium on SiriusXM to get a better picture and then dig deeper as far as the tracks -and when I say deeper I mean older Offspring, Pumpkins, Radiohead, Social Distortion, Sublime, etc...etc...you get the picture.  Then, keep the ska punk show, and add a show where you play nothing but local bands to get them some attention/promotion.  End the ridiculous hee-hawing around in the morning, and either play music or devote it to talk that's actually meaningful for a few hours...say something truth-oriented for people who want the truth without filler and BS.  Heck you could even make it commercial free and independent, supported by listener donations with no commercials...maybe like a copy of 103.1 for example in that aspect.  When I lived in Florida years ago, we had a pirate radio station (102.1 the Party Pirate -now on the web) that began to outdo the local rock station because they played almost anything and everything and had different hours for different music.  They even had their listeners mailing them CD's (or tapes -it was the late 90's) if they didn't have it already. The only thing that stood in their way was broadcasting without a license and the end result being the FCC shutting them down.  103.9, being a power house as far as signal, could take these ideas and many more so far and probably do very well in the Phoenix market, if they would just listen to the people or as they jokingly call the majority "Generation X."

• This is awful.  A lot of the music I listen to now was influenced by 103.9 from 2005 on- Muse, Franz Ferdinand, The Hives, The Killers.  Guess I'll have to listen to NME radio on the computer after I get home and hopefully don't hit traffic.  What's the difference between 103.9, 98.9, 99.9, or any other MIX station.  That's what they've become now.  Too bad.  The station used to have a personality.

• When the newest owners got rid of "the morning ritual" we should've known something like this was going to happen. For people who don't know 106.7 plays alternative, and a lot of obscure and older alternative so it might not be what you like all the time. But it's better than the crap 103.9 is now playing. And I'm Generation X.

• Just call it 103.9 The Clone. Same old boring shit as every other station in the valley. We now have about 6 stations playing the same songs. And I agree Dave Pratt is a boring DJ. No personality. My grandmother would be a better morning show host than him.

• David Pratt killed the radio station in Phoenix. Disappointed that 103.9 is changing their format. As a Gen X'er, the new format will not be a Gen X format. The owners have been destroying this radio station over the last few years. The Dave Pratt shois the worse morning show that I have listed to. He's not funny. He's boring. He rambles on about nothing. It shows how people get paid for delivering garbage. I'll be streaming KROQ from Los Angeles and listening to my IPOD when I drive. Until someone smartly adds a true Gen X radio station back to Phoenix.

• yay. another boring sucky radio station. alternative 103.9 was one of the most tolerable stations because they didn't play all of the biggest hits. sometimes, it was almost actually entertaining and uplifting to hear it in its old alternative format. but then, today i had it on 103.9 and some crap like ACDC and the Cars were playing, and then another song that came out when i was still wearing diapers, and i thought i was listening accidentally to 100.7. nope, just another seriously BORING new clone of 100.7. mind numbing repetition. can't have enough of that, can we? thanks new 103.9 for making phoenix radio even more boring and redundant than it already is. you lost a listener.

• Such a bummer! The new years weekend with no repeats was great and now 103.9 is a classic rock station?! I don't know who decided this Dave Pratt revival of the '80's idea is a good one. He sucked then and still does now. Bad move 103.9...lost a loyal listener.

In other words, all the same shit already heard on KDKB, KOOL, Mix, The Peak, KSLX... etc., etc, etc.... In other words, overplayed, overdone, mass-produced TRASH not worth listening to. Until I can scrape up the money for either an iPod deck for my car or a satellite subscription, all the preset buttons on my car radio are being tuned to only 5 stations: -- KJZZ (for news that isn't slimed with right-wing hate) -- 103.1 FM (for quality music) -- 106.7 FM (ditto) -- 104.3 FM (for the occasional old-school fix) -- 620 AM (for the occasional Suns, DBacks or Cards game.) Every other station in this town can suck it.

• It's all advertising demographics, friends. Nothing new here. Doesn't really matter what songs are actually played, as long as you 'identify' with that advertising vehicle in your lifestyle and respond to its eventual marketing promotions on Facebook.
