After tweets yesterday from Dave Pratt Live co-host Kassi Jayde indicated yesterday that KEXX-FM (103.9) would be shifting to a "classic rock" format, a Facebook post by Gadger, a X103.9 jock, who hosts (or hosted) the station's "Local Frequency" program, states that the format shift will be less "classic rock" and more Gen-X:

"My103.9 will debut Thursday, and it is a station that is being built for Gen-X, by Gen-X, that embraces Phoenix's Adults and their lifestyles. Expect to hear U2, The Police, Blondie, The Eagles, Bon Jovi, Van Halen, John Cougar Mellencamp, The Pretenders."

X103.9 playing alternative rock music in the valley will soon cease to exist. I want to take this moment and personally THANK YOU the listener, the fan, also my past and present co-workers who will always be family, AZ local bands, artists, everyone that has been a part of this amazing journey with the radio station. Hopefully the 103.9 staff and myself, were able to distract you from the daily BS the world delivers, and lift you up on a sh%tty day, by doing what we love...

Tonight I toast to you and celebrate the station's legacy and what it meant to fans of alternative music in the valley over the years! -Gadger

My103.9 will debut Thursday, and it is a station that is being built for Gen-X, by Gen-X, that embraces Phoenix's Adults and their lifestyles. Expect to hear U2, The Police, Blondie, The Eagles, Bon Jovi, Van Halen, John Cougar Mellencamp, The Pretenders. It is a format that has mass appeal with upscale adults. The business decision is to appeal to a large audience with financial means and discretionary income, and is the fastest growing format and the #1 format for out-of-home listening.

Certainly easy to see how that kind of stuff would seem like classic rock to Jayde, even if it isn't defined that way in radio-speak.

Still no concrete word on what exactly will become of X103.9 jocks like Craven Moorehead (longtime host of the excellent "SkaPunk" show), Hammer, Gadger, or Robin Nash.
