Welcome to another installment of Up on the Sun's 2011 Review. We've been counting down our favorite songs, shows, national and local releases of 2011. This installment takes a look at 2011's most memorable moments in late night television. Enjoy!

Television occasionally has some special moments that are worth Tivo-ing.

The best late night shows have continued to book stellar talent and impress the masses with both old and new acts this year. Many a musical guest graced the stages of Letterman, Leno, Lopez and more.

Certain moments stood out to us as particularly notable. Even though quite a few of those moments came from Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, we're sending big ups out to Jimmy and his good people for booking the creme de la creme.

Check out our top five late night music moments of 2011 after the jump...

5. Roger Waters with the Foo Fighters perfoming "In the Flesh" on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon
My eyes and ears were overwhelmed with dangerous levels of awesomeness when I first watched this. Putting Roger Waters on the same stage as the band whose latest album Rolling Stone readers voted as Album of the Year for Fallon's Pink Floyd Week made for a gem in the history of late night musical performances.

4. Explosions in the Sky performing "Postcard From 1952" on The Late Show With David Letterman
It says a lot about a band when they can really move an audience without any lyrics, and frankly that's a triumph for present-day mainstream music.

3. Justin Timberlake with Jimmy Fallon performing "History of Rap (Part 2)" on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon
The boys are back at it in the third part of their little "History of Rap" series of cover medleys. Always keeping it fresh with goofy musical skits, both Fallon and Timberlake ooze enthusiasm for hip-hop and the artists that have made it so great throughout the years.

2. A Rock Odyssey featuring Jack White (Part 1) on The Colbert Report
Jack White and Stephen Colbert discuss placing "Seven Nation Army" in a commercial for yogurt, Jack takes on Stephen as a temporary recording artist, and then they openly exploit each other. Check out part 2 and part 3, which are both equally amusing.

1. The Roots vs. Michele Bachmann on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon
"Oh shit!" was lots of people's first thought when they found out the song that The Roots played during Michele Bachmann's entrance was called "Lyin' Ass Bitch." Three cheers for The Roots for always saying what's on their mind directly to the people they want to hear it.
