Madonna Confirmed to Perform at Super Bowl XVLI Halftime Show
As the football weekend wrapped up Monday night, fans had plenty to cheer about.
Cheeseheads everywhere breathed a sigh of relief as the Green Bay Packers survived the New York Giants 38-35 to preserve their undefeated season, while the Cardinals shocked the Dallas Cowboys in overtime. Although the Denver Broncos staged another dramatic late-game finish, the biggest news to come from the NFL involved a famous virgin not named Tim Tebow.
During Sunday night's Lions/Saints game, NBC confirmed that Madonna will perform at the Super Bowl XVLI halftime show in Indianapolis.
Whether you watch the league's championship match for the love of the game, team loyalty, or the commercials, the halftime show (thanks to the original wardrobe malfunction) has become just as big a deal.
The Super Bowl is scheduled for February 5, 2012, which gives us plenty of time to speculate which songs Madonna will perform. Follow the jump for our list of favorites we hope to hear that night.
I remember watching Madonna perform this song on a VHS recording of her 1985 Virgin Tour. At 53, here's hoping the ol' lass can summon up a little sass from yesteryear.
It really is only a matter of time before the Super Bowl becomes an actual American holiday. It should be celebrated as such.
"Ray of Light"
Madonna's new album is set to drop next year, so the halftime playlist may include new material from that. Hopefully she won't forget this tune from the '90s.
She's got a catalog of bouncy dance hits to choose from, but what better way to attract our neighbors across the pond than with a song written for Austin Powers.
The Super Bowl is an epic stage. It's going to require an epic song.
