This Has Been a Good Week For Black Star Fans
It's been a really great week for Black Star fans -- and I'm one of them. Black Star, the 1998 collaboration between Mos Def and Talib Kweli is one of my favorite hip-hop albums. 
Black Star Performing on Colbert Report
The duo performed "Fix Up," produced by the nearly always awesome Madlib, on The Colbert Report, on Wednesday, October 5, and today our compatriots over at Sound of the City (the Village Voice music blog) brought news of Kweli performing at the Occupy Wall Street event.
Kweli told the Voice:
"This is the most American thing I've seen in my lifetime," he said. "I had to come down and see it for myself, so I could tell everyone about it."
The duo recently cancelled a string of dates -- and Mos Def recently announced that he'll be going by the moniker Yasiin in 2012, but the new jam (which rules) and Kweli's stop at Occupy Wall Street both make up for the disappointment.
His message ("Skip the religion and politics, head straight to the compassion. Everything else is distraction") is a good one -- even if it's a little undefined, which as been my main concern with the protests.
We'll see if the Occupy Phoenix event brings out any big names like Kweli.
