Holy Page Records Releases Halloween Compilation 2011

All holidays have their plusses (even the ones with dubious -- though not syphilitic, as it turns out -- origins, like today, Columbus Day) but for my money, there's no holiday quite as much fun as Halloween.

Each year I try to scare up a special mix of spooky tunes (previous inclusions include Tracy Jordan's excellent "Werewolf Bar Mitzvah" and Screamin' Jay Hawkin's take on "Monkberry Moon Delight"), but it looks like I can sit this year out: Phoenix-based Holy Page Records has released its first Halloween compilation, and the results are interesting at worst, and awesome at best.

The songs range from the hymnal-like drone of Kapala's "The Rain Has Stopped. The Sun Has Risen," gorgeous violin folk from Graham Patzner, the John Carpenter-via-J. Dilla horror soundtrack of Creepy Marbles (contributing a song called "Back Lodge Beat-Off").

In true All Hallows' Eve tradition, there's some funny, silly stuff, too, like the the proggy "Easy Bake Coven" from Jang, the sax-heavy groove of iji's "Sitter Waiter," and the monster prom vibe of Mato Ica's "Teen Ghost."

You can download the download the entire album at Holy Page's Bandcamp site, or order one of the limited to 50 copies available on cassette (you know, if you're super cool, or a physical media nerd).
