Tonight's the night: Darius Rucker's coming to town. Now don't rule your eyes --anyone who digs country pop shouldn't miss the chance to catch Rucker perform. The guy's an anomaly, less because he's an African American in country and more because of his unlikely comeback stride. When was the last time one of your favorite artists from 17 years ago took over the airwaves?

No matter how manly you claim to be, let's face it: we all know that deep down in your heart, you have a soft spot for songs like "Only Wanna Be With You" and "Hold My Hand" (and that the Dolphins do, in fact, make you cry).

So get off your high horse. I encourage all of you to enjoy yourself some good tunes at the Coliseum, hop on a few carnival rides, and chow down on fried Twinkies tonight. But if you're reluctant about going to the show, here are five reasons why you should check out Rucker's gig.

Darius Rucker is scheduled to perform tonight at the Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum at the Arizona State Fair.

5. It's an excuse to dress up like a studly cowboy or cute cowgirl.

After all, those are clean costumes that would count as acceptable State Fair attire. Plus, you can get twice the mileage from your outfit if it doubles as a Halloween costume.

4. All shows during the Arizona State Fair are free with fair admission.

You know what's better than a free concert? A free concert that's not a complete waste of time that will leave you walking out with a smile.

3. Darius is just so American.

Let's get to the meat and potatoes here. Nothing says "red, white and blue" like country music, which is what Rucker's keeping himself busy with these days.

2. His last album is pretty solid.

If you haven't checked out Charleston, SC 1966 yet, you should probably get on that. The album has produced two number-one Billboard singles. The rest of it is worth a listen too though.

1. He's fuckin' Hootie, man!

Rucker was, is, and will always be the Hootie in the sense of both the spirit and the name. If Hootie and the Blowfish didn't make your life even just a little greater in the '90s, then you have no soul.
