As if things couldn't get any worse for Valley sports fans. First the Diamondbacks run out of pixie dust, ending their season in gut wrenching fashion, and now NBA commish David Stern has canceled the first two weeks of the regular basketball season.

Something about money, or whatever, is keeping owners and players miles apart in their ongoing negotiations which means more heartache for fans, but hey at least the Cardinals are -- wait -- ah, damn it!

In light of these recent doldrums, we can't think of a better way to say goodbye to baseball, and possibly basketball, than by making a list of comfort songs.

Weezer - "Say It Ain't So"

Music and misery kind of go hand-in-hand. While Cuomo and the boys may have something a little more serious than sports on the mind, it's all the same to us right now.

Keith Urban - "Tonight I Wanna Cry"

"The way that it was and could have been surrounds me/I'll never get over you walkin' away." Sing it Keith!

The Verve - "Bittersweet Symphony"

Nothing pulls on the heart strings like the strings in this adaptation of the Rolling Stones, "The Last Time."

R.E.M. - "Everybody Hurts"

Hasta la vista, R.E.M. And thank you for giving us the best song to be sad to.

Bill Withers - "Ain't No Sunshine"

Beauty is a cruel mistress. So is professional sports.
