GLOWfest brings Avicii, Chiddy Bang, Silver Medallion, and More to Mesa Amphitheatre Thursday
Come this Thursday, Arizona State University will become the third U.S. campus to get a taste of GLOWfest, the college-based hip-hop and dance festival that has already hit Boulder and Indiana Universities. But, uh, not really.
Technically the festival, including headliners Avicii and Chiddy Bang, will take place a good ten miles down the road at Mesa Amphitheatre. But who's counting mileage, really? Isn't anything that isn't Tucson considered Sun Devil country? (Here's where a more enthusiastic ASU alum would insert a few other jabs at the UofA that would incite a "house divided" azcentral-style comment war.)
ASU club and GLOWfest's campus sponsors Future Promoters of America (who oddly don't do much promoting on their own part via Facebook) say they polled ASU students and by far the artist they demanded to see most was Sweden's Avicii, who despite having a horrifically styled website, maintains quite a reputation as one of the world's leading house DJs and remixers. Co-headliners Chiddy Bang also get into the remixing game, adding songs by Sufjan Stevens, MGMT, Radiohead and more into their alt hip-hop sound.
One especially unique aspect to GLOWfest is that they allow student organizations to sell tickets for profit. For each $35-$40 ticket they sell, GLOWfest donates $2 back to the organization. Actually, we're not sure who that deal is benefiting more...
Join other acts Cazette, Warm Brew and Silver Medallion this Thursday at Mesa Amphitheatre. The show starts at 5 p.m.
