Worst Flier of the Week: 9/11 Massive

911 Massive flier.jpg
Prostyle Promotions
Normally we feature fliers that look cool, but this one is downright tasteless. Jeez, Prostyle Promotions, have some class.

The second annual 911 Massive Goes Glow event will be held on Saturday at Stratus from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. It's a 16-and-up rave. Tickets are $22 to $25 with $1 from each ticket being donated to the American Red Cross.

All DJ talent aside, let's examine the flier more closely. Primarily, it's absolutely disgusting that whoever designed this flier made the glow sticks loosely resemble the Twin Towers and that there are clouds of smoke around them. Secondly, it's terrible that somebody higher up actually approved this flier. Thirdly, only a cold-hearted asshole would try to make money by promoting their rave as a "9/11 event," and for the second year in a row, at that.

Sure, it's nice that donations will be made to the Red Cross, but that really doesn't make up for the disrespectful manner in which Prostyle Promotions has chosen to advertise and market the event. There are so many better, more patriotic ways to recognize 9/11 as a time to remember the tragedy and honor our heroes, not to roll yourselves stupid and wake up the next day forgetting that it's 9/11.

And now for a weird sidenote: they've got a pretty strange list of prohibited items. What promoter's biggest safety threat at an event is unsealed tampons? You can't even make that shit up.

Honestly I hate raves and anything that has to do with them, but honestly New Times between this and your Bryan Lightingrod story. I'm absolutely convinced your writers are all idiots.

thats ravers for yah, they only care about themselves and their druggie friends, and capitalize off such events as 911. boycott the show asap!

"Druggie friends;" excuse you, but not every single raver is a druggie. Learn your facts before you start running your mouth, thanks.

how 'bout you shut the fuck up and enjoy the rave

If its really an "In memory" thing, why not give all the profits to charity instead of just $1. Capitalizing off of tragedy is pretty low.

Wow, this article is very ignorant. Do you actually have any type of degree in journalism? Not every person who attends raves partakes in drug usage. Also, you must be the one on drugs to think that the glowsticks resemble anything close to the Twin Towers. I usually do not read the Phoenix New Times, and for them to publish this garbage makes me want to never read articles from them again.

Wow that flyer is really bad, it even has the words exploding out of the middle like planes crashed into it from the air. What a terrible idea.

You should be fired for writing an uneducated blog like this. Many of us don't do drugs.

People celebrate on Memorial Day, Independence Day,Martin Luther Kink DayVeterans Day, Labor Day, Presidents Day, 4th of July Day, Columbus Day,Thanksgiving Day ,Christmas Day,, Many U.S. holiday's are associated with War and tragedy or loss and we Americans celebrate in memory of these events, so nothings different here, we Honor their Memory as Americans United & Lenni if you chose not to, that's your right as an American but there'll be many Americans at this event who disagree with you, Lenni you twisted things so far out of proportion just to degrade this event and it's promoters to satisfy your own personal issues. If you we're offended We're Sorry that was not the intent of the flier nor the promoters.

Lenni Rosenblum

Actually all of the holidays that you named are happy or positive celebratory holidays that have nothing to do with war, tragedy or loss, except for Memorial Day, Martin Luther King Day and Veterans Day. And heads up buddy, Independence Day and the 4th of July are the same thing.

I'd rather party and be happy on 9/11 instead of cryin' all day around the damn house.  Couple more years and 9/11 will just be another excuse to get a day off work so we can all get drunk. You know why? cause we're AMERICANS! I LOVE THIS FUCKING COUNTRY!

WTF?  Twin Towers? Twin  = 2 from all the schooling I have had. Your TWO eyes are FAILING to see THREE Glow Sticks.I recommend tuning into Sesame Street to learn your ABC's and 123's.Good thing you're not a bank teller!

Oh Lenni now I see it, it does kinda resemble the twin towers,,,,all 3 of them!! Lenni put down the pipe before you write and please focus on better objective reporting.

Lenni Rosenblum you have no clue what your talking about other then ranting on and putting down this flier, promoters and event, how can you even say that the glow sticks are symbols representing the twin towers with smoke, wake up and open your eyes they are just 3 glow sticks plain and simple to represent a glow party theme this year nothing else , I see you are from back east and looks like your looking to just attack this event, please step back and leave your personal opinionated attacks out of your  articles your in Arizona and it would of been nice if you would have contacted the promoters and asked a few questions about this event to verify any questions and concerns you have, but you didn't do that, you just went on to attack the Flier , event and promoters publicly, why would you do that ? why weren't you more responsible on this sensitive subject ? if your so concerned other then blasting away at them. I'm sure this article would have been better if you had done some real journalistic work instead of just lashing out and making false accusations and assumptions that you have not verified with anyone to be the truth maybe your on your "Period" and you need to borrow a fresh "Sealed Tampon" to plug up your sloppy leak. & Lastly, Only an uneducated half ass sloppy reporter would write an article without checking for facts before making hurtful statements!

This is a city of transplants so what's your point? Plus most people reading this that weren't born here are now happy of that fact because we were taught when to use the contraction "you're" and now don't sound like rednecks that just learned what a computer is and started posting on the internet like you.

Words of advice - If you are going to make an attempt at correcting other people's grammar, please ensure that you are using correct grammar, yourself. Have you ever heard of a run-on sentence? If you read out loud what you posted, it sounds stupid. Please don't proclaim yourself as "grammarpopo," when in fact, your grammar sucks.

I did contact the promoters on Tuesday and never received a response. Obviously there are 3 glow sticks, I don't need to have my eyes checked...to me they just resembled the Twin Towers in the bigger picture.

You did not attempt to contact us. And no permission was given to use our copyrighted flier on here

The event page on Facebook lists 4 people under who created it; not to mention, they also have an actual page for the event as well. I just did my research and it looks like you have a Facebook; so you could have contacted them via Facebook to get authorization. Even if you didn't have a Facebook, you could have easily created one which would have been the professional way to go about this subject. You did not do your research properly. Also, you are very biased; to stereotype the people who go to raves is beyond rude and offensive, not this flier.

Lenni Rosenblum

I looked at multiple pages for the evnet before I looked at the company's page.

RNanette
RNanette

You obviously did not try that hard. If you pulled up their Facebook page, it shows three different people who you could have contacted. You are not that great of a journalist. I would recommend finding a new job, because your career will probably not go far if you can't even do proper research. I found their Facebook page within a minute.

Lenni Rosenblum

I sent an email to bsoto@prostyle.co at about 7 p.m. on Tuesday and received no response. That was the only contact I could find after about a half an hour of digging through your various sites that advertised this event.

This bitch is crazy! You must of been on some good ass drugs when you saw the twin towers, in glowsticks?! the fuck? hahaha! Im weak! You should be like one them code breakers for the u.s. gov. instead of trying to find a secret subliminal message in rave fliers!

Erika

Its obvious Lenni Rosenblum doesn't know what she is talking about! twin towers? yeah theirs two towers but 3 glow sticks on the flier! lmfao yeah your lame find something else to write about! there is no way that resembles the Twin Towers lol....

Transcript: Not sure if rave flyer is being cheeky, or subliminally offensive...

Yeah. Maybe it's because I'm an east coaster, but it's more because I'm an American, but I found it offensive and I was kind of shocked when I saw this flier.

RNanette

Did you see the focus of this poorly written article though? She made very biased statements that were offensive. I, myself, rave and do not do drugs. Also, the flier looks nothing like the Twin Towers. She didn't do proper research of this event at all. If she was to make the points that you made, I would see her point of view. She did not though, she just spewed a bunch of bullshit to get an article done. Students from my high school Journalism class wrote better articles than this garbage.

It doesnt matter if there was security or that it was a legal party? The point being was that, so many people were killed on 9/11, this war started, and someone finds it appropriate to have a party all night and then wake up from the drugs the following morning.. what about that shows any patriotism what so ever?

Nicholas Capertina
Nicholas Capertina

Your point is Erika? You made no valid argument aside from the fact that the rave is legal. I don't think anyone is questioning the legality of the event. Its more a question of MORAL consciousness. This party is a fucking joke. THIS is the reason terrorists hate us.

Instead of mourning the loss of thousands by being humbled by the events and spending time with family and those who are closest to us, we throw fucking raves? This is a disgusting excuse for a party. The promoters are directly manipulating people into thinking they're doing something besides stuffing there pockets with cash at the expense of thousands of lives and lives ruined.

And YOU Erika, are a fucking idiot for thinking that just because there's permits and security and off duty police officers that its anything but A FUCKING RAVE. RAVES ARE RAVES! Don't try and cover it up with some bullshit ramble about how because its a "legal" rave that its anything but a rave.

I've been raving since 2006, my sister raved since 2000, and I love my scene, but this fucking disgraceful, and its people like you that ruin it.

Ignorance Begets Ignorance. Violence Begets Violence. And this right here is proof that this country has done nothing but become Ignorant in light of such horrible Violence.

You're a fool if you believe otherwise.

Erika
Erika

you need to do more research on the event before you post a blog. "There are so many better, more patriotic ways to recognize 9/11 as a time to remember the tragedy and honor our heroes, not to roll yourselves stupid and wake up the next day forgetting that it's 9/11."  Event has Security, Off duty police officers and permits from the city. This is not a illegal party that happens at a random warehouse!
