Snake! Snake! Snakes! Featured in Tanner Hall Trailer
Phoenix-based outfit Snake! Snake! Snakes! specializes in a sound well suited for high drama. The group's 2010 self-titled release proved that the band had its gaze aimed at the big time, filled with tunes that earned comparisons to previous indie bands that wound up playing arenas: U2, The Arcade Fire, and Interpol. 
In short, the band made a compelling case for inclusion on some taut, serious minded indie film soundtrack, and lo and behold, the group's song "City on Fire" is featured in Anchor Bay Films' upcoming release, Tanner Hall.
The film is, tellingly enough, a coming-of-age story set in a Rhode Island prep school. It stars Brie Larson, Amy Ferguson, Rooney Mara, and Georgia King, but more importantly (for me, as a total geek) Chris Kattan (Corky Romano), Amy Sedaris, (Jerri Blank from Strangers with Candy) and (Tom Everett Scott, you know, GUY PATTERSON from the supremely excellent 1996 classic That Thing You Do!).
"Yeah it's pretty exciting," S!S!S! songwriter John Messenger says. "I've been one of those people caught in a movie or commercial or trailer, wondering what song's playing, so maybe this will be another small outlet to get our music out there more."
Messenger is not sure if "City on Fire" is featured in the film, but singles featured in trailers for Garden State (Frou Frou's "Let Go") and The Social Network (Scala & Kolacny Brothers' cover of Radiohead's "Creep") helped boast those band's popularity.
"...not sure if we're in the actual movie though," Messenger says. "Probably the same situation with Arcade Fire's song featured in the Where The Wild Things Are trailer."
And since he made the Arcade Fire comparison, I guess you can take my earlier one back.
