'Roadhouse' Themed Bar to Open in East Mesa Come October

There's still work to be done at the Roadhouse Cafe's new east Mesa home.
It's safe to say that just about everyone wants to be a little more like Patrick Swayze in 1989. Those playful eyes, those luscious long locks, that talent for making the tightest pair of pants look effortless, even when kicking ass -- Yeah, that's a real man.

But perhaps Valley bar owner Joe Severs of AFAB Design is the late actor's biggest fan. His new 8,000 square foot east Mesa bar and grill, The Roadhouse Cafe and Double Duce, will pick up where the legendary 80s film left off. But hopefully it will be less, um... stabby.

"Roadhouse is not just a name. It's not just a title," Severs says. "It's an atmosphere. It's a history. It's the old Americana. It's a feeling. It's an era."

Certainly the theme is supposed to be kitschy and cheesy, but Severs is building the restaurant at 7000 E. Main St. as a serious business. With rock and roll shows, karaoke, live comedy and a super secret "date night," about which Severs wasn't ready to reveal details, he hopes to make it the premier entertainment focused venue in the east Valley. In true Roadhouse form, a game room, dance floor and expansive stage will also be added.

The bar will begin hiring staff in mid August (Hey, maybe you could be the "cooler!") and opens its doors October 1.

Lets see, where do I start. First let me say I disagree with the basher's of this establishment. I'm a regular customer there both the bar and restaurant.Things have changed for the better over the last 2weeks. A clean sweep of the kitchen was made and every one was fired except the 2 best cooks. The menu has totally changed for the better.(no more fish Fry's on Fridays).According to my wife the Shrimp Scampi is to die for. To the person who compared this place to Denim &Diamonds, remember D&D is a night club not a resturant/bar. I've been to D&D and it's so loud in there when the band is playing you can't hear yourself think let alone talk. You want to talk about under age drinking this would be the place to find them.Joe is trying his best to make a go of it against all odds after the failures of other establishments at that location.Yes you will find snow birds there but not when the bands are playing on the weekends. As far as the reference to Hells Angels, just because a persons transportation is a motorcycle doesn't mean he's a Hells Angel. Finally any misbehaver will not be tolerated and I have witnessed people being asked to leave.

Will never go there. Owners don't know anything about customer service. Try writing something bad on there Facebook page and they will delete the comment and block you. They really need to learn what makes customers happy.

I was there Friday night.  Wow what a good time.  People were nice and friendly.  The band was GREAT!  They played alot of old tunes that I haven't herd in awhile and did a GREAT job!  There was one older man that was getting out of line and they had ZERO TOLERANCE for people misbehaving!   That was cool!  I like to go to places that only allows A GOOD TIME!  And gets rid of the rude downer people.  Party On Roadhouse!  Good Luck to you Double Duece!  The Bartenders?  WOW!  Eye Candy! Oh ya they were Nice and Friendly Too!!!! Yummy!

Id like to make some points clear.I have been in the business for over twenty years.I am a certified chef and i have degrees in the field.First the chef at the Road House Doble Duece isnt a chef never been to school just a mom and pop operater and the food i nasty.  the food concept and recipes are about fifteen years outdated.  I got to talk with a server that gave me a tour of the place.  The walkins dot work the meat is all stored wrong.  they age incorrectly.  basicly your getting old miss handled and un suopervised meat thats just been sitting in the cooler for twenty days.I watch them use things of the floor the bar serves minors and they are rude.  if you dont like buikers dont go.This is now the regular hang out for the HELLS ANGELS.  The owner wont listen because he feels that building a restaurant for others is the same as knowing how to run one.  He buys his liquar from somewhere else then resells it in his bar..  The food is not dated or rotated.  The equiptment is old anf the kitchen ad place is so very dirty.  Only passed inspection because of who they know probably geesed the wheels there too.

They need to hire a profestional to show then the right way its a ok built place and has tons of uture potentuel but i wouldnt go there now.  The "dancers" are all fat and ugly.

The roadhouse cafe is a cool looking place however it is not a very safe environment considering the hells angel biker gangs are constantly in the bar scoping things out and as its known the hells angels are trying to mark their territory at this so called bar. Why would you want to risk your lives just to have a beer. Its not even worth it. Even though their is security of just a few guys anything can happen. Most of the people that go there are elder... they don't have any music playing unless you put money in the jukebox. On weekends they have dancers but they dance like they are strippers? Our waitress was so concerned about her dance the other night that she forgot all about our drinks... working in the bar/food industry shouldn't customer service be your first priority? Not in this place. About 2 weeks ago we ate there for lunch and waited 45 minuets to get our food and when they brought it out it was cold. Seems to be like not everyone has been trained. And not a whole lot of personality no one seems like they want to be working and that they are not happy with their job. Would not recomment going there at all. Denim and diamonds is right down the way and they have great specials for ladies on wed nights no cover and .50 drinks and constant music to dance to and have a great time with friends!!!

Pass The Road House Cafe on the way home every day ..... they just added a new sign:  Double Duece ???  Why is it spelled wrong?  Shouldn't it be DEUCE?  Maybe I'm wrong, but maybe they should check it out?  Can't wait for it to open, sounds like fun!   I hope it has all types of music, and not just noise, and really good food.  Good luck to the owners!

I'm excited about the opening of this bar.  I heard about it a couple of weeks ago and think the concept is wonderful. Mesa needs something and if the person who is opening up this establishment and make it work good for them.  The key is the people who gets hired there.  You can always teach someone to make drinks but you can't teach personality.  If he/she is able to hire a group that is versatile in race, size, and shape and able to get the personality on all to boot then he/she will have a successful establishment.  It is all about the staff who creates the atmosphere of a good place and people will come back.

Typical, this new owner builder is known as a notorious scam artist con man-he has never operated a successful business in his life. He operates like a virus, he worms his way  into a failing business, gains control under the auspices of being a contractor, scams money from the victims and then cant complete the contract.  Then moves on to his next"venture"   His name AFAB, anything for a buck is all we need to know. Shame, especially at a time like this in America when we need people with integrity to build up the workplace-not take one down.

For whatever reason, this location has never supported a restaurant. There have been at least ten different types of restaurants at that location that never stayed in business. I wish him luck, maybe senile consumers will frequent his establishment, its really a snow bird area and not a location for nightlife.  Since I'm not older than dirt and not a snow bird, I'll definitely check it out as long as I don't have to hide behind chicken wire from glass bottles shattering. Maybe he's going to make it a biker bar.

Nothing "Coo" has ever worked out well here in Mesa.  I keep hoping.

This fool never even pulled any permits to remodel the place. Electrical, plumbing, knocking out structural walls. We'll see how long it stays up and running before the city catches up.

I agree regarding the service, Went there for the first time on Friday evening. The restaurant side was like a geriatric ward, of course they came for the all you can eat fish for 8 bucks. So we decided to sit in the bar area. Service was provided by an upset, over-worked (according to her) bar tender. She was pissed since her bar back and relief didnt show for work. She took our oder within about 10 minutes of sitting down. We ordered cheeseburgers, unfortunatley for us they came without the cheese. Fires were luke warm to cold. To get another beer it was quicker to go to the bar and ask for yourself. To be fair the bartender was alone and the bar area was getting busy. I saw no one resembling a manager/owner overseeing his/her new venture. Infact, an older couple sat at a table behnd us and were duly ignored. Even after the gentleman walked up to the bar and asked for service, none came. After 5 minutes they finally left in disgust. The crowd at the bar was a mix of biker types, cowboys, old people, and what looked like contractors. Seemed like no one who worked there knew what the hell they were doing. The place looks like they are still in the process of renovation; with plywood still screwed over the window on the door in the bar and about a thousand paint spills and drops on the floor at the main geeting area at the dining entrance. The bottom line is that the place has a long long way to go before being ready for the big show. Looks like they opened on a shoe-string budget months before they should have. I wont go back until I hear about some improvements.

Wow, i can't believe someone would really call Joe Severs a scam artist or anyone for that matter. This is a person who is trying to create jobs and a fun atmosphere where a old city lacks it.  If you don't like someone bring it to there attention or keep your mouth shut, don't slander a good thing before it even starts. I have known Joe for over 5 years now and the only person who is getting scammed or screwed over is him. I have  personally watched him put his heart and sole in to a project just to get nothing in return. Just think about it like this from now on, If you have some thing bad to say about someone go back to what you learned as a LITTLE KID treat others how you want to be treated your self.

Of course that should be "cool"

" treat others how you want to be treated your self." If this is your defense for Mr. Severs you obviously dont know anything about him at all. Just ask anybody he's ever done work for/with (if they are aloud to talk about the case outside of court), any of his friends (if he still has any), or even his family.... oh wait dont ask his brothers, daughters or his wife because they definately wont help your case.Just remember ANYTHING For A Buck also includes lieing, cheating, and stealing.
