DJ Element on Timing, DJ Quik, and Repping the Southwest
Making a name for yourself in the DJ world take a lot of hard work, and Element and his Blunt Club brethren are certainly putting in their time. (Pickster just dropped the AZ Gunslingaz EP on El Cuco Recordings.)
Tonight's edition of Blunt Club, hosted by Thriftshop, will feature live art by Dump La Rock, and tunes from Pickster and Element, spinning hip-hop, moombahton, and various forms of funky electronic music. "I'll be dropping all West Coast heaters," says Element on the Blunt Club event page.
Read on for Element's thoughts on respecting one's elders, timing, and repping the Southwest.
DJ Name: DJ ELEMENT
Genres Spun: Hip-Hop, Funk, Soul, Reggae, Dancehall, Neo-Soul, 80's, Dubstep, Moombahton, etc.
What are you listening to these days? Nottz, Dam Funk, Pac Div, John Holt, Outkast, and anything by 9th Wonder.
What's your favorite album of the year?
It's a tie between DJ Quik, Book Of David and Pharoahe Monch, W.A.R.
What advice do you have for other DJs?
Practice practice practice! It takes more then a laptop and a name to last in this game. Last but not least, respect your elders who paved the way for you. Stop trying to be an overnight sensation and pay your dues.
What are the details about the tour you are heading out on with Pickster One?
Aside from doing local gigs. Pickster and myself have been doing shows nationally and well as Internationally for a minute now. Timing is everything. Him, Dumperfoo, and myself decided to take what we do every Thursday on the road and do a BLUNT CLUB TOUR. We'll be gone for a few weeks reppin' PHX all over the U.S., so wish us luck and keep us in your prayers while were on the road.
