Last year's Winter Soulstice lineup...
You have to give it up to the folks organizing the 2011 Winter Soulstice event presented by Walking Stick.

Rather than just guess who the people want to see, they are allowing Facebook fans of their page to actually vote on who is going to get booked at this year's party, scheduled to go down in conjunction with the actual winter solstice in December.

I don't have any clue as to whether or not the organizers of the event could actually get some of the artists available to vote on. The local acts range from local-but-more-national acts like Jimmy Eat World to how-bonkers-would-it-be-if-they-actually-played nationals like Lil' Wayne, Andrew W.K., and Toto.

The majority of the list is made up local bands, and if anything, serves as a nice indicator of what local bands are on the tips of people's tongues.

The list features some big name locals, like Black Carl, Gospel Claws, What Laura Says, and Kinch, but also plenty of bands that are rising in stature, bands like Kongos, Boys & Frogs, Underground Cities, Saddles, and so many more. There isn't a lot of local hip-hop, metal, punk, or noise, but plenty of folk, indie, and general rock.

Head over to the page and vote. We'll see what happens. I'm not holding my breath or Andrew W.K. or Toto making an appearance, but maybe we can convince Owl & Penny or Mergence (both featured on the list) to do covers of "She Is Beautiful" and "Rosanna."

Walking Stick is the future. Princes amongst men they are. Double thumbs up! I'd follow them into the fire.
