Drake Returns to His Roots, Performs at a Bar Mitzvah

Young Money rapper and former Degrassi: The Next Generation actor Drake got in touch with his Jewish roots and performed at a bar mitzvah in New York City this past weekend
, according to MySpace Music News.

The intimate performance was for bar mitzvah boy Andrew Zucker, son of former NBC/Universal president and CEO, Jeff Zucker.

The newly bar mitzvahed 13-year-old was glad to have Drake, his second choice performer, on board to be part of his special day.

Drake himself was raised in a very Jewish neighborhood in Toronto and attended a Jewish day school. He even had a bar mitzvah when he was 13, as well. Drake, whose real name is Aubrey Drake Graham, was born to a Jewish mother.

Bar mitzvah receptions are not cheap, especially not if your dad is a big kahuna in the news and entertainment industries. Andrew's first choice performer was actually Kanye West, who wanted $1 million for the gig.

Last time I saw Kanye West in concert, my own Jewish mother said to me, "Why would you give that schmuck the satisfaction of having an audience?" I suppose she said it best: Kanye isn't for everyone, which is why Drake may have been the better choice for the bar mitzvah after all.
