| Panda Bear - Tomboy |
The ides of April are upon us and they bring with them what I believe to be 2011's finest month for new music. No one release is as anticipated quite as much as Tomboy, the fourth album from Animal Collective founding member Panda Bear. We last heard from Panda Bear -- né Noah Benjamin Lennox -- on his 2007 album Person Pitch. Since then, Animal Collective released perhaps their finest work to date, 2009's Merriweather Post Pavilion. You'd be hard-pressed to find Panda Bear making a subpar effort these days.
Tomboy doesn't drop until a week from tomorrow, but NPR has given the album its Exclusive First Listen treatment.
Tomboy is streaming in its entirety over at NPR music. The album has been kept under wraps quite well -- there have yet been no leaks. This stream by NPR is most likely the first time many people -- myself, included -- get a chance to listen to Tomboy. I'll go so far as to say that the album is pretty solid. I would expect nothing less from Panda Bear.
Now we wait to see if Tomboy will, in fact, be named Pitchfork's album of the year.
