Phoenix Symphony Tapped to Back Cover Singer

Categories: Announcements

San Francisco's symphony famously backed Metallica for a two-disc epic called S&M, redefining how many people look at metal in the process.

The Phoenix Symphony will back Canadian Christian singer Jim Witter, who has made his living doing knockoffs of popular tours like the Elton John/Billy Joel piano duel in recent years. He brings his Simon and Garfunkel "tribute," Feelin' Groovy: The '60s & the Music of Simon & Garfunkel to Symphony Hall in March.

Witter usually works with Pops-type orchestras, it seems, including Boston Pops, the Cincinnati Pops and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, but in Phoenix he'll perform the folk duo's hits -- "The Sound of Silence," "I am a Rock," "Cecila," and "Mrs. Robinson" among them -- backed by our state's most prestigious musical ensemble.

Wittier has done the same with orchestras in places like Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Iceland.

"Feelin' Groovy," will be held at Symphony Hall on March 18 at 8:00 p.m., March 19 at 8:00 p.m. and March 20 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets start at $18 here.

Stay tuned for more from The Phoenix Symphony, including shows like "The Elvis Tribute" (April 29 & 30), "Boogie Woogie Pops" (May 27 & 28) and "Live & Let Die" (June 10 & 11).
