Coachella's official lineup should be announced very, very soon -- lest anyone forget that this week is usually when the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival
makes it big announcement.
In lieu of the entire festival lineup, a few acts have already been confirmed for the festival's 2011 edition -- Duran Duran
, The Strokes
Duran Duran are set to headline Saturday night, Billboard reports
: The boys will be playing a non-headlining Sunday night gig. It makes perfect sense as Saturday is Coachella's "retro" night, if you will, with Crowded House, Depeche Mode and Prince among the list of past Saturday big name acts.
Gary Numan -- of "Cars" and "M.E." fame -- unfortunately missed last year's festival due to the eruption and of Eyjafjallajökull and its subsequent ash grounding flights from Europe. The Strokes -- who recently confirmed a March 22 release date for their next album -- are set to play this year's festival. No word if they will headline or not -- perhaps the heavily-rumored Arcade Fire could take that slot.
As we edge closer towards the official announcement -- which I think should come later today -- it's always interesting to speculate who all will be playing by taking a look at their already scheduled spring tours.
First off, Coachella's official website has been playing videos by confirmed acts as a sort of tease for this year's festival-goers. Tame Impala, Fanfarlo and Monarchy have all had a video featured on the website's main page, making them all but confirmed for the festival.
Bands like Aussie elctronic/indie rockers Cut Copy are less than couth about their Coachella plans, listing a Friday, April 15 date as "Take A Wild Guess." Whatever the case may be, when British bands start booking North American tours with dates in San Diego, Los Angeles, Phoenix and Austin in and around a few days before or after Coachella, chances are they're playing the festival.
So enjoy the last few moments of Coachella lineup speculation. Once everything is announced, I will be sure to update this post with all the necessary information.
