Over the last days of 2010 Up On The Sun will be counting down the best live shows of 2010.

Today we look at the #4 show of the year, Gorillaz at Comerica Theatre.

Show: Gorillaz at Comerica Theatre

Date: Tuesday, October 26, 2010

Background: For most fans of the Gorillaz this was their first - and possibly last - opportunity to see the band live. While the Gorillaz had performed live before, it was usually one off shows here and there. The Escape to Plastic Beach Tour would be the groups first proper tour. Problem is there isn't really a group. Since its beginning Albarn has created the music by himself and with a handful of collaborators but let the groups cartoon band members take center stage.

Why it stood out: For this tour Albarn decided to put himself in the spotlight and leave the cartoon characters in the dressing room (literally, kinda). And as far as the problem of there not really being a group? Well, Albarn grabbed some musicians from a band you might have heard of to help him out. Namely Mick Jones and Paul Simonon from a little band called The Clash. Not impressed? Well, how about the fact that soul legend Bobby Womack, De La Soul, Little Dragon and almost a whole orchestra were brought a long for the tour. Even Snoop Dogg and Bruce Willis managed to make some pre-recorded cameos. It's not very often or likely to be repeated that you get that much talent on stage on one night.

Someone else said: "Then, they signed off with the title track to "Demon Days," Albarn clearly basking in the glory of finally being treated like a rock star in the States after decades of headlining festivals back home in England. And he clearly earned it, with a dizzying pop spectacle that could have held its own against the most extravagant productions in the history of pop." - Ed Masley of the Arizona Republic
