UK Getting Limited Edition John Lennon Coin

Lennon coin.jpg
Just like in any other country, people in the UK sure do like their money. That's why they voted for John Lennon to appear on the Royal Mint's commemorative £5 coin, according to Spinner.

Over 27,000 people voted for Lennon, which was 92 percent of the vote. Lennon fans showed up the fans of Jane Austen, John Logie Baird and Walter Raleigh, who were the other candidates for this limited edition coin. Shocking result, right!?

The Beatles are bigger than Walter Raleigh!

The coin is, coincidentally, being produced the same year as what would have been John's 70th birthday.

Only 5,000 Lennon coins will be made. They will retail for £44.99 ($72).

I get it, only so many of these things are being made that their value increases. But as much as I love John Lennon, I'll never understand why anyone would pay $72 for something that's only worth $8. Bollocks, I say!
