The interior of Nu-Towne Saloon, prior to getting roasted and toasted by a fire.
East Phoenix gay bar Nu-Towne Saloon was the unfortunate victim of an devastating fire earlier this week, which reportedly caused "extensive damage" to its interior.

Please refrain from making any jokes involving any wordplay with "flames" or "flaming," thank you very much.

Per reports by KTVK and FOX-10, the blaze was ignited early Wednesday morning and raged for approximately two hours before the Phoenix Fire Department arrived to extinguish the inferno. They apparently had trouble getting through the joint's steel security door, and were forced to cut a hole in the roof. No word has been released as to the cause of the conflagration.

Given that the fire had plenty of time to burn, it's a safe bet Nu-Towne's shabby-chic décor, which consists of various antiques and tschotchkes, has likely been reduced to rubble.

We're particularly curious as to the condition of the six-foot plaster rooster that occupied one corner of the bar, although it's a safe bet that particular chicken had been fried up.

I agree.  The manager & most of "Her" staff ran The Eagle / Retro Bar into debt until it had to close. Then Ronda brings the old looser staff back to Nu-Towne to put that owner in debt also. The wireing in the building was new but Rhonda's electric cords were as old, and dusty, as she is.

The fire was caused by an attempt at insurance fraud! Don't believe that this bar will ever reopen as it has been suffering at a major loss for almost a decade now! The dream people are selling out there is just that, a dream that will never come true.

This bar has been one of my absolute favorite hang outs since 1984 and I will be very sad if it does not re-open. This is an amazing bar with an amazing history. Lets hope it can survive this setback and thrive for years to come! Good luck Ron and everyone at Nu-Towne!
