Julian Koster (of Neutral Milk Hotel) Brings Slumber Party Like Show to Trunk Space Tuesday Night
Elephant 6 stallwart Julian Koster, formerly of of Neutral Milk Hotel, has been doing weird shows with his new band The Music Tapes for years. For example, playing "White Christmas" outside random apartments in New York as part of an annual Christmas Carol tour.
These are the sorts of tours that often skip Phoenix (obvi) but Tuesday night Trunk Space will house a Slumber Party Like "concert" that's sure to delight local fans of indie pop and confound anyone who happens to hop to the teenie-tiny venue over after a few beers next door.
Yes, pajamas would make for totally acceptable attire. Unless they are those awful Owl City footie pajamas.
This is really the sort of thing I'd prefer to let a press release describe in detail.
That and an mp3 of the "The Television Tells Us" are below.
This November and December, The Music Tapes will be bringing a comforting, enchanting, and very special evening of Music Tapes' dreamlike songs, stories and games for sleepover parties across the US and Canada. The Lullaby Evenings with include songs from the Music Tapes forthcoming 2011 record, as well as from Music Tapes for Clouds and Tornadoes, The 1st Imaginary Symphony for Nomad, and The Singing Saw at Christmastime, along with new Music Tapes games and stories. The entertainment, though sometimes more exciting than lulling, are all in honor of the comforting moments directly preceding and following sleep when we find ourselves happily unsure of whether we are awake or are dreaming.
The show is $8 and guaranteed to give you an entry on your "oddest shows I've ever seen" list. Oh, and because it's a non-traditional show there are no "set times" per say, but the venue recommends showing p between 9:30 and 10:30 p.m.
You can try to get more info from their basically unnavigable website, www.orbitinghumancircus.com, but it's not going to be easy.
