Give Your Old Instrument to Ear Candy and See Blue Oyster Cult and Foghat For Free

Let's face facts: You're never going to play that old saxophone again.

Sure, you think about it every few months, but your skills are too far gone and your heart's not totally in it. Honestly, it's more or less mocking you from the bottom of closet.

Why not give it to a kid who still has a chance of making it? A fresh-faced kid who might actually have the heart to be a great bluesman, or at least represent his school marching band well?

Ear Candy and Celebrity Theatre are holding an instrument drive to provide instruments to kids who need them. Donate an instrument and receive a pair of free concert tickets to your choice of:

• Blue Oyster Cult & Foghat at 8 p.m. on Fri., Sept. 17th
• Tower of Power at 8 p.m. on Sat., Sept. 18
• Stylistics, Cuba Gooding Sr., New Birth with host JJ Walker on 7 p.m. Sun., Sept. 26th.

Just drop off your old horn at the theater's box office -- 440 N. 32nd Street -- and you score two tickets to your choice of those shows.

Ear Candy Charity, in case you're not familiar, is a locally-based charity which supports in-school music programs through instrument drives and monetary donations. They'll even keep you in the loop on where your instrument landed. Ear Candy also does after-school music programs, and music-themed field trips such as visiting a major artist's sound check and concert, touring a radio station, or attending a guitar-making workshop.

Last month they gave 70 instruments to Phoenix elementary schools providing over 3,000 students in the downtown school district with the tools they need for music education.

"We are a district dedicated to preserving music and art education in our schools," said Myriam Roa, Superintendent of Phoenix Elementary School District #1. "The donation of these musical instruments will support our efforts greatly due to the cost of maintaining instruments across our schools for children who do not have the ability to purchase or rent instruments."
