Flier of the Week: Father Figures at The Trunk Space

When your band plays a brand of music called "zombie jazz," you've got to come up with a flier that is just as hypnotically creepy to promote your summer tour.

That's exactly what Brooklyn, N.Y.-based band Father Figures was going for with the creation of this epic poster, which advertises their Tuesday, July 27 show at The Trunk Space, with local support Tobie Milford.

"We're trying to convey the awesome power of our sonic explosions and how that correlates between shark men and giants," says Father Figures tenor saxophonist Adam Schatz. "But more than anything, we just wanted an insane image to become a part of this tour."

The flier was designed by artist Emilia Edwards, sister to Father Figures keyboardist Ross Edwards. She was inspired by Spanish painter Francisco Goya's depiction of Saturn eating his son, but because of Ross' affinity for sharks, she decided to make the subject a shark.

As for the show, audience members can expect something just as cool as the flier.

"It's music inspired from jazz history and laced with dynamic and motivated improvisation, housed between honest melodies and shotgunned into the realm of freak accessibility," Schatz says. "It will make sense if you come see us. So come see us!"

The all-ages concert starts at 7 p.m. and costs $6. For more information, see www.thetrunkspace.com.
