Lady Gaga, Rise Against, Disturbed Join Korn's BP Boycott. Oh, Yes, and Creed Too!

When news of Korn's boycott of BP broke last week it sorta looked like a joke. I mean, at first, it was pretty much just marble-mouthed Jonathan David, his band and fellow 90s-refugees Backstreet Boys.

Now, well, the lineup is not awesome or anything, but it's getting better. One huge, relevant artist, Lady Gaga has also committed to not using BP oil on tour. She joins more bands you did not know still exist, like Disturbed, Godsmack, Slightly Stoopid, Rob Zombie, Megadeth, Black Label Society with Zakk Wylde, Anthrax, Creed, and Filter.

Oh, yes, and Rise Against, who, as a matter of policy, join in any boycott they can. And Flogging Molly, because they like to oppose anything vaguely British in order to keep some street cred in Ireland.

"This is the worst thing that has ever happened to the environment in U.S. history. From everything we're hearing about now, it's become clear that BP cut corners to put profit ahead of safety. The message we are sending should tell all the oil companies to spend the money and take the necessary precautions to make sure this doesn't happen again," said Jonathon Davis of KORN.

"My daddy did not love me and kids picked on my in high school, yournotraranararnanrara -- twist," he may have added.

Full press release below.

KORN's boycott of BP has started a ground swell of like-minded musicians intent on making a statement against the devastation in The Gulf caused by BP's record setting oil spill. The following top touring artists have joined the cause and have committed to avoid the use of fuel sold by BP or its affiliates on their upcoming tours for 2010: Disturbed, Lady Gaga, Rise Against, Godsmack, Backstreet Boys, Rock Star Energy Drink Mayhem Festival, Slightly Stoopid, Rob Zombie, Megadeth, Black Label Society with Zakk Wylde, Anthrax, Creed, Filter, Hellyeah and Flogging Molly.

"I'm really proud that this many artists have already come on board, and I hope more will join soon."

First estimates show close to 100 vehicles, trucks and buses from the committed artists will be involved in the boycott this summer. The number is continuously growing, resulting in tours all across North America refusing to fill up with BP products. More touring artists and people throughout the continent are uniting in boycotts against BP as a result of the catastrophic oil spill.

Some summer festival tours like The Rock Star Energy Drink Mayhem Festival are already known for using biofuels. However, the entire festival, comprised of twelve bands, will promise to not purchase their biofuels from BP or any of their affiliates. Tour creator Kevin Lyman agrees, stating "We have so many friends that are now affected by this spill that unless BP spends whatever is needed their livelihoods are lost forever. To that end we are encouraging everyone we deal with to find alternative ways to get down the road this summer."

The boycott had good intentions. Some people, like the writer of this blog, are just miserable and need something to apply sarcasm and negativity to.

Of course the boycott isn't a economically sound idea, but they're rockstars, not economists.

This is my first time on the website, so I'm not sure whether the content of this website is meant to be humorous or not. I would hope not, because I found nothing funny about this column. Bash the bands all you want- it doesn't matter. No matter how relevant an artist is(PS it is insulting to list Disturbed as a "band you are shocked still exists"), every one of them has a tour bus and is equal to each other in transportative vehicles. The fact that 20 plus artists aren't going to use BP is very signifigant. The fact that this website diminishes the attempts of artists to make a real statement and affect change is nothing short of appalling.
