Flier of the Week: Domo at Yucca Tap Room

At first glance, you might think this poster is for a 90's movie night. At Yucca Tap Room? Nah.

Local pop rock band Domo, including singer/guitarist Jason Sukut (who designed the flier), are simply paying tribute to the film Men at Work, starring Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez.

"I wouldn't exactly call it high art," Sukut says, "but it's funny. And ironic, which I understand is hip these days."

The flier's not quite that ironic, actually. True to the film's name, the guys in the band have been busy, diligently putting together their new album With Friends Like These...We Need New Friends, which they celebrate with an album release party this Saturday, May 29 at 9 p.m.

"It will probably be the single most important musical performance of our era," Sukut says. "For generations people will speak of this night only as 'The Show.' The very definition, for better or worse, of rock and roll as we know it will be forever altered after Saturday night."

You can't blame Domo for being confident. The band, whose new tunes may be heard at www.myspace.com/thankyoudomo, released the album on their indie label Starrcraft Records and recruited bands Dagg Nabbit Stubbs and The Haymarket Squares to join them for the party. But if you're a little skeptical about the grandeur of the concert, Sukut assures potential audience members it will be a fun experience no matter what.

"I can at least promise that there will be bands performing songs while consuming beers in an attempt to have a really, really good time," Sukut says.

The 21-and-older show is free. For more info, see www.yuccatap.com.
