Pussycat Lounge Enters the Vinyl Frontier With reWAX DJ Night

D-JR and eight other locals will scratch and spin on actual vinyl this Sunday at PCL.

​Back in the day, the only thing a DJ needed to rock the house was a couple of turntables a few dozen records, and some serious scratching skills. Nowadays, it's de rigueur for wanna-be beatmixers to own a Macbook, a copy of Serato Scratch Live, and hundreds of MP3s downloaded from the Internets.

Scottsdale club promoter Justin Gurian is hoping to take local DJ fans back to those old school days with his new monthly reWAX at Pussycat Lounge, which debuts this Sunday and features some of the Valley's biggest DJs working the wax on actual records.

"This is a chance for some of the best DJs from Phoenix and other states to come show off their skills on vinyl," Gurian says. "It's an opportunity for them to show off that being a DJ is about more than just typing in a song on a keyboard."

A total of nine different local selectas will kick it old school by digging out their finest vinyl all evening at PCL -- including DJ Circle, Death to the Throne, Power 98.3's DJ M2, Benjamin Cutswell, J.Paul, and D-JR (who won last month's Red Bull 3Style showdown and will be celebrating his birthday on Sunday).

I can probably count on one hand the number of spinsters who are "vinyl only" (including Djentrification and mig50), and none of them would ever be caught dead doing their thing in Scottsdale. So suffice it to say, reWAX is probably one of the most unique Old Town club event in years.

To make things even cooler, Gurian is planning some rad stuff for the night, including broadcasting live-feed footage of each DJ spinning up a storm on each of the LCD TVs throughout the club.

"This is a night for all the people who are sick of Lady Gaga or Britney or any of the same tired mixes [that are] banging in the clubs each weekend," Gurian says.

The wax working starts at 10 p.m. and there will be a complimentary Ultimat Vodka hosted bar from 9 to 11 p.m. Click this link for more info.
