Name: J.Alan Ehrhardt

AKA: DJ J. Alan

Current club nights: Thursday at Suede, Friday at Axis/Radius, Saturday at Suede, one Sunday per month at Martini Ranch.

Genres spun: Hip-hop, house, electro, and Top 40

How did you get started as a DJ: Rob Wegner was DJing at Club 411 at the time. He and I are friends, so he would let me hang in the DJ booth with him. I was amazed at how he had the ability to control the dance floor with the music he was playing. So I asked him if he would be interested in teaching me the basics of beat matching. He gave me the pointers I needed and I just practiced hours and hours everyday

What's your mantra as a DJ? DJ for the crowd, not for yourself.

Best experience as a DJ: Wow. The best experience has to be playing with artists like Richard Vission, Bad Boy Bill, Paul Oakenfold, countless celebrities and doing the halftime show for the NBA All-Star Game fashion show. And to be honest, I can't even think of a "worst experience." This job is amazing.

What do you like best about Scottsdale? Love it. Things have definitely changed over the past few years but I adapt and stay focused; which, in my opinion is to play the music that the people in the club want to hear.

What would you change if you could? For club goers to be more open minded with music. I understand the radio tracks need to be played, but also be able to accept other types of music as well. The whole idea of "going out" is to let loose and have fun, but most of these people only want to hear [what's on] "the radio." Learn to relax and understand that the DJ is going to play those tracks, when and how he wants. That's why he's in charge. Trust me, smart club owners aren't going to allow a DJ that doesn't know what he's doing to be in charge of one of the most important aspects of his club-the music

How do you get a crowd going? Its all formatting, play the right track at the right time and the rest is history

Worst request: Probably when people make requests for songs that are super lame and then say it's an inside joke for me and my friend. Really? You want me to mess up everyone else's good time for an inside joke for you and your friend. Get outta here.

What's been hot in Old Town lately? I'm really happy to say that electronic music is making a comeback. When it comes to fashion, I'm the wrong guy to ask. I'm a tee shirt, jeans, and dope sneakers kinda guy.

Craziest shit you've seen at a club: I've seen everything...and when I say everything, I mean everything.

Last song you downloaded: Satisfaction by Benny Benassi (Afrojack remix)

Track currently stuck in your head: A-Trak's remix of "Money to Blow" [a.k.a. "Loonies to Blow"]

Current projects: Working on a new CD that should be released real soon.

When not DJing, where can you be found? Either in my studio, or on the couch.

Preferred poison: Bud Light and random shots.
