Black Forest Mill Restaurant Closes, Leaving Hipster DJs Homeless Once Again

Scenester spots just seem to go kaput to the tune of once a year: Glam bit the dust in 2008, followed by Homme Lounge going teets up last November. And this year's entry is Black Forest Mill German Restaurant, which closed last Friday.
In addition to slinging sauerkraut, the Deutschland dining spot located in the Arcadia neighborhood has been home to Jared Alan and Sean Watson's popular Saturday night weekly Cheap Thrills for more than a year.
According to the rumor mill, the closure was reportedly due to a dispute between the property owner and Black Forrest's proprietors. I'm attempting to speak with both parties to get all the gory details, but haven't heard back as of this writing.
Regardless of what caused it to happen, the Cheap Thrills DJs were left without a venue. Watson said he and Alan were given less than 24 hours notice of the closure and scrambled to move last week's edition of the Saturday evening weekly to Philthy Phil's (currently the home of Ransom Fridays) for a one-off. He and Alan are currently in the hunt for a new home for Cheap Thrills, but that will have to wait until after a certain music festival takes place this weekend.
"It's been sad, so we're all going to Coachella to forget our troubles," Watson says. "We're taking a week off and will then find a new spot to kick things off again and keep doing what we're doing."
Alan is familiar with getting 86'd from his venue, as his long-running fauxShow Fridays started out at the old Glam before getting kicked to the curb when the dance dive was snuffed out by its landlord.
