So we all know that using tossed out objects for art is nothing new. But that doesn't mean the practice can't produce some great art.
We have the chance to see some of the latest trash-turned-treasure at the "Ten Transformations: Framing Renewal" show at Chandler Center for the Arts, opening this Friday.
There, the artists found discarded junk: Appliances, machinery parts, and metal scraps just teeming with potential. A shovel was later used as the foreground for a watercolor painting and a grill turned into a figure of a woman backed with canvas. And that's just the beginning.
Participating artists include Sue Berzelius, Royce & Juanita Carlson, Laurie Fagen, Cheryl Jones, Debra Jones, Shari Keith, Kris Kollasch, Tim Krise, Toni McGraw, and Sandra Neumann Wilderman.
The opening reception begins Friday, March 19 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Chandler Center for the Arts, 250 North Arizona Avenue in Chandler, Call 480-917-6859 or visit www.chandlercenter.org/visual-arts. Show continues through April 16.
