Q&A with Job For a Cowboy's Jonny Davy

Up on the Sun: Most of the touring you've done in support of Ruination has been as a supporting act, opening for heavy hitters like Slayer, Lamb of God and Gwar. Are you looking forward to being the headliner for a change?

Davy: It's been a long time on the unforgiving road since finishing up the works of Ruination. Touring with Slayer, Lamb of God and Gwar has legitimately been a blessing in a lot of blatantly obvious ways. We started off playing at clubs such as The Modified Arts, The Phix, Neckbeards, The Attic and the good old Mason Jar. We literally played in all of our parents' garages and living rooms, just trying to get by. If I could go back in time and tell myself everything this band has done in the past five years, I would probably be laughing in a mirror image of myself. Being a supporting act, or headliner, either way we really can't complain the slightest bit.

UP: Do you prefer playing smaller clubs as a headliner or larger venues as an opener?

Davy: It is without a doubt a complete toss-up. We have a bit of a DIY punk rock attitude to the band, whether it comes to playing shows or even the business aspect. They both have their pros and cons for obvious reasons. Being in smaller clubs you definitely have more of a personal connection with the audience. When it comes to playing in larger clubs and opening up for bigger acts, it's almost a fun challenge attempting to win a crowd over who is very unfamiliar with your band.

UP: Looks like the tour wraps up here in the Valley. What's next on the band's agenda? Is it too early to ask about a new album?

Davy: We're already digging into the idea of the next record. We have scheduled plans to tour Japan, Australia and a summer festival run in Europe. After all of this is behind us, we plan on sitting down and putting together the next record. After that, the usual...ENDLESS TOURING!
