Some artists still have an infinite supply of unreleased material, no matter how long it's been since they passed from this earthly plane.

Slowly and painfully, these songs are compiled onto "new" albums and released like some kind of slowly-metabolizing prescription painkiller. You know you need more than one, and once your body is done absorbing the first dose, you know you've waited just long enough that the doctor will agree to give you a second.

The new record, Valleys of Neptune, is set to be released on March 9 and includes 12 unreleased studio recordings. Most of the songs are earlier incarnations of some more famous Hendrix tunes, under different names. According to The Huffington Post, these are not merely recordings of the guitar God jamming. Rather, they are completed works, with only minimal finishing and editing done to them, post-Jimi.

The Hendrix family says that there will be many, many more "new" Hendrix albums released over the next decade. I suppose this is a good thing. People are always jonesin' to hear more work made by their idols. But you have to admit that it is a bit odd to still be getting new records from an artist 40 years after his death.

Check out The Huffington Post's complete review of the new record.
