Arty Girl: DJ Demonstration at SMoCA's "Rewind Remix Replay"

​SMoCA really knows how to stay on my radar.

This is the third time I've blogged about their "Rewind Remix Replay: Design, Music & Everyday Experience" exhibition.

But it's with good reason. Starting with a call for historic music-making/producing/amplifying contraptions way back in June, the show opened early this month. It sounds like (get it?) this project has been a tremendous undertaking.

And SMoCA isn't finished yet.

This Thursday, the museum is hosting two DJ's to spin their sounds and talk about their practice at the gallery DJ station installed as a part of the art show.

Phoenix DJ Mark Chai has been at it since 2000 and is known for mixing house, hip hop, indie disco and dancehall. World Famous Rani "G" recently opened for Mark Farina with his soul, Afro, Latin-driven deep house and world-beat sounds. Both will perform and discuss their unique DJ styles with free admission from 7 p.m. this Thursday, January 21st.

And (just so I don't end up blogging about more events down the line) here's the schedule for the rest of the "Rewind Remix Replay" events SMoCA's got on the docket:

"Music and Popular Culture" lecture by Dr. Richard Mook on Wednesday, Febuary 3rd at noon.

Free gallery talk and walk through by guest curator Prasad Boradkar on Thursday, Febuary 11 at 6:30 p.m.

Spring Opening Celebration on Friday, Febuary 19 from 7-9 p.m.

"iPods, Boomboxes, Turntables, Synthesizers and Guitars" panel discussion on Saturday, Febuary 20 from 1:30-4 p.m.

DJ Demonstrations and Gallery Talks with DJs Maji, dk.stickler and Mr. P-Body on Thursday, April 29 at 7 p.m.
