• <p>And I repeat -- David Cook's credit to other artists for arrangements used by him on AI is a matter of record -- it's all on video folks-- you can go watch it on YouTube right now if you want to(Doxology, Whitesnake, Cornell, etc -- in fact,Cornell was mentioned by Seacrest in the introduction of Cook's first performance of Billy Jean and then by Cook and Seacrest repeatedly throughout the season --WAY more than Michael Jackson who wrote the song). Cornell couldn't have been too upset -- since he sent Cook "Light On" for his album, which became a platinum single. Whose arrangements do you think everyone else on AI has been singing all these years? The only reason there has been a fuss about Cook is that he was so original in many of HIS OWN (much to the pleasure of Mariah Carey, Neil Diamond, Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie and most of the rest of the country).</p>

• <p>I remember season 5 of American Idol quite well. As I recall, Vote For The Worst backed several contestants that season, including Kevin Covais, Ace Young and Kellie Pickler before they got behind Taylor Hicks at the very end. I hardly think you can give VFTW credit for Hicks victory. He started gathering support from the very beginning and pretty well steam rolled his way through the competition. He stole the title away from the AI annointed one, Chris Daughtry. Maybe that's why American Idol has been bad mouthing Hicks non-stop since he won. I've had the pleasure and pain of attending concerts of both Hicks and Daughtry. Hicks puts on a darn good show of nonstop music. He and his band played an eclectic mix of really good music for close to 90 minutes. I was sorry to see it end. Chris and his band Daughtry played about 45 minutes. His attempts at patter between songs were painful. I don't think he cracked a smile the whole evening. I guess smiling is too un rock god like. Came off as very phony. Very plastic. Very Idol. So don't let the AI powerheads fool you. Like who you like. They're peddling snake oil.</p>

• <p>Jason - Re credit... I was wrong about Whitesnake - David did credit Whitesnake's version of Day Tripper. Billie Jean was Chris Cornell's version, sparser and uncredited. And Cook did not credit Doxology for Eleanor Rigby. Just search Google for Doxology releases statement about David Cook.<br /> </p>

• <p>I guess you are one of the very few who realize what really happened in the voting for AI2 Champ. Ruben did NOT win over Clay. Clay was receiving EIGHTY (80) PERCENT of the vote EVERY SINGLE WEEK HE WAS ON. (Ask the two producers who made that claim not too long after the finale) Of course Clay was the much more talented of the two. His stage presence was much more pronounced over 'boring, but nice' Ruben. Most of Ruben's renditions were so boring and slow. Clay's fanbase was 100+-fold over Ruben's; and still is to this day. Just by the popularity polarization between the two there is/was no way Ruben 'won' the vote that night.Clay has been on more magazine covers, appeared numerous times on tv; hosted his own Xmas television special and had 8 solo tours and several cds; wrote a book and has a very successful charitable foundation, etc., etc. One phone line and 2 hours of voting time was not enough for Clay's votes to get through (Ruben's mother got in 200+ votes; Clay's only 2!!!). That is why, starting the very next season, AI increased the phone lines to 2 and 3 per finalist and the vote time to 4 hours. Such a simple thing to figure out.</p>

• <p>David Cook is obsessive about crediting other artists whenever it is relevant. His support of other musicians is well-known and well-documented, as is his grateful attitude toward his own mentors. I can't believe people are still beating this dead horse -- he was amazingly original with HIS OWN arrangements on several numbers AND in adapting arrangements first done by others, which is standard AI procedure. If you watch the AI season 7 vids, you can see Seacrest or Cook or both credit EVERY borrowed arrangement EVERY time -- this is a matter of history, not a matter of opinion. Platinum album - #4 Rock Album of the year on Billboard -- SMOKIN' tour Feb-Dec-- yep,Cook rocks.</p>

• <p>I agree with most of the choices, with the possible exception of the choice of Reuben over Clay. Clay has a more versatile voice. Also must disagree with the comment that Taylor didn't deserve to win. He was by far the best and most original entertainer and singer that season. A better choice for a video would have been his performance of Sam Cooke's "You Send Me", which Simon called "magic!" It showed the "real" Taylor, not the persona Idol wanted him to project. Since his win, Taylor has refused to compromise and remained the unique ands endearing performer we enjoyed on Season 5.</p>

• <p>Regardless of when Cook mentioned he covered other bands' covers (and I do not remember that being until he was called on it), he did not re-invent Eleanor Rigby (Doxology's cover) or Billie Jean (Whitesnake's cover). I think the writer's swipe at Archuleta was unnecessary, but I guess there are still sore winners around. It was a great season of Idol and the top moment for me was Archuleta singing Imagine.</p>

• <p>You picked a great selection of AI moments! Nice to see them all in one place. My only change would be to sub David Cook's Billie Jean for the Eleanor Rigby. </p>

• <p>David Cook's album went platinum, so don't see how that can be considered mediocre. If you ever see him in concert, he is the ultimate performer with an incredible voice. He will definitely have a long and successful career ahead of him. BTW, don't understand the cheating comment. Yes, he used some arrangement others came up with (as just about every other contestant has done) but he gave them credit when he did. However he also made his own arrangements, which just further goes to show what how talented he really is.</p>

• <p>Cook was cheating other artists' covers multiple times after finding them thru internet. Look what happened to his album. With full of mediocre songs, he has proven that what people saw on TV was not his ability. What a mediocre singer with an average voice!</p>
