"When you grow up, your heart dies." (The Breakfast Club)

"I can't believe my grandmother actually felt me up." (Sixteen Candles)

"So, what would you little maniacs like to do first?" (Weird Science)

And that's just off the top of my head, folks. If you were a child of the 80's and 90's, John Hughes changed your freaking life. And we owe a big thanks to this man - a man who made us all feel somewhat normal in our adolescent awkwardness, gave us immortal quotes (as seen above), and absolutely defined the ever-important genre of the teen movie.

I'm sure you've heard by now that the prolific writer/director died on August 6th of a heart attack as he was taking a morning stroll in Manhattan. He was just 59.

During the 80's and 90's, the man was responsible for an incredible line-up of pop culturally relevant movie hits. Sixteen Candles, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, Weird Science, Home Alone, Uncle Buck, Planes, Trains & Automobiles...yep, all John Hughes.

Harkins Valley Art will honor Hughes starting tonight, with an entire week of John Hughes movies to show on the big screen. The line-up includes Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, Weird Science and Planes, Trains and Automobiles. Tickets for each showing (click here for movie times) are just $5 and tonight, before the 7:20 p.m. showing of Sixteen Candles, prizes will be given for fans who dress up in their best 80's outfits.

"Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." (Ferris Bueller's Day Off)

Here's to you, John Hughes.

Harkins Valley Art is located at 509 S. Mill Ave., in Tempe, www.harkinstheatres.com, 480-446-7272.
